Regarding my recent OpticsPlanet order for the Hornady Black 7.62x39mm 123 grain SST Centerfire Rifle Ammunition... I've shot the 7.62x39 for many years out of an authentic SKS. This particular ammo from Hornady is top notch and very accurate. The product arrived in good condition within quoted time frame from OpticsPlanet. No complaints and would order again.

Great ammo!

This ammo is great. Very accurate and consistent. I took 3 deer with it. All three dropped in 20 yards or less. The SST bullets worked exactly as advertised. This is my go-to hunting ammo.

This ammo hits like a hammer.

I always have a rifle in the truck when traveling around checking livestock. 7.62x39 is the caliber of choice it works great on coyotes which we are always managing. I use the same rifle for deer because inside 250 yards it does a great job. Used this Hornady black on a 300 pound 185 inch Nebraska buck at 100 yards and anchored him. Can’t recommend any better ammo especially in 7.62x39.

Cons:
  • This ammo is expensive for the caliber.
Best Used for:
  • Varmit and deer sized animals.

The most available and reputable x39 Defense Ammo

For those who need to know the math:

The required minimum velocity for this to work is 1800fps. Out of an 11.85 Barrel thats about 150yds max give or take.

Home Defense, Hunting, it'll do the job.

The best 7.62x39 available?

This is probably the best you can get. The tip is very destructive, especially for this caliber. Hunting, defense, and it’ll improve accuracy on any rifle especially an AK. Hard to find too so get it when you see it at a good price.

Hornady black 7.62 x 39mm

Not sure how you could improve on Hornady SST bullets. They are very effective and accurate. They have always given me a quick clean kill. Hornady is the only bullet I hunt with .

Kills good just doesn’t have the hydrostatic effect.

Shot three does in the 2022 GA deer season so far. All three heart shots at varying angles Accuracy is good, get 3/4” 3 shot groups out of my CZ 527 American 24” barrel. This is a lower speed round which doesn’t destroy as much meat if your bullet exits a shoulder. Trade off is you don’t get the massive trauma from a faster bullet like a 308 or 30-06 will do. I’ve had two of these three does run a bit, they didn’t drop right there from hydrostatic shock. Trade offs, one which I’ll take it leaves very little wasted meat.

  • Little blood shot meat and low recoil.
Cons:
  • No Hydrostatic shock

  • Deer hunting.
