A Great Knife
First let me say while Hydra isn't that well known in the US,they make an outstanding product. They choose good materials and have great fit and finish. They save money by not offering a dozen variations. All their knives are from 2 or 3 different steels and they are all about a very hard 60 rockwell. My Openfield was no exception. Razor sharp out of the box, with a stout, perfectly ground blade. The only thing I would have changed, would be to have the grip extend another half inch as the edges are ground to a perfect 90° making it uncomfortable against the heel of the palm. I fixed this by rounding the edge with a sharpening stone. This is something I haven't noticed on my other Hydras. Still, I think you can spend twice as much, but not come near the quality of this knife. I also like the little details like a tension locking screw on the sheath. Nicely thought out.
Pros:
- Exceptional attention to detail, sharp and well made
Cons:
- Metal edge can be uncomfortable at rear of grip
Best Used for:
- Outdoors, hunting, bushcraft, survival
Would recommend: Yes
