Most Helpful Positive Review Go with a dead blow!
If your rate of fire is creating bolt bounce or even won't run, you MUST run a "dead blow" buffer. These are not the cheap one-piece steel buffers, those are junk, don't waste your time and money. Dead blows usually have three (or two) internal weights consisting of aluminum-steel-tungsten, the comb...

Most Helpful Negative Review NOT good for FRT. Not proper weights
While the overall weight of this may compare to an H3 buffer, it does not have three tungsten weights like a traditional H3 buffer. It does Not prevent bolt bounce like it should. Fast shooting will result in out of battery hammer drop. Tested with multiple uppers, multiple lowers, multiple springs,...

Just buy an H-3

by Timbo74, Verified Owner from WI, United States Written on September 13, 2026
Do not buy this gimmick. Yes, it has reciprocating weights, and yes it is the weight of an h-3 buffer.
The main problem being the buffer body is heavier than the brass weights! A mil-spec h-1 buffer has significantly more dead blow effect, than this h-3 buffer, which means this buffer is a gimmick.
Best Used for:
  • paper weight

The additional weight does help with the AR15 locking open correctly instead of catching upon the magazine.
When shooting when feeding from the magazine it should it should help reduce jaming.

Price was right and the weight was spot on. It's a buffer, not that much to talk about.

Too wide for spring

by Bdpl, Verified Owner from SC, United States Written on August 25, 2026
I thought this would be the standard diameter of a regular millspec buffer but it is too wide and will not fit using my flat wire springs that I purchased so it is unusable.

Not an optimal buffer

by CL, Verified Owner from PA, United States Written on August 19, 2026
It works and serves the purpose, but its not optimal. It's steel and will absolutely not work with the partisan frt. Optics planet sold this as a package deal with that trigger and triggered company specifically states not to use this buffer with tjeor trigger. Good job optics planet, I'll remember that when I need to order something again. I put it in my standard carbine and it works OK. It's a good bit heavier than the standard carbine buffer but it does function.
Pros:
  • Works in a standard carbine
Cons:
  • Does NOT work with partisan frt
Best Used for:
  • Standard carbine.

Excellent Buffer for SBR FRT setup

by Chief, Verified Owner from AL, United States Written on August 19, 2026
The Kaw Valley H3 stainless steel buffer has performed exceptionally well in my AR-15 style SBR. The buffer has the correct weight and effective dead-blow characteristics, which contributed to reliable, consistent cycling with my setup and an Atrius V2 safety selector.

The stainless steel construction is another major advantage. It should provide excellent resistance to corrosion while offering long-term durability and service life.

Overall, I’m very pleased with the quality and performance of the Kaw Valley H3 stainless steel buffer. It has proven to be a reliable component and has performed flawlessly in my particular setup.
Pros:
  • Weight
  • Dead blow
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • FRT, Supper Safety, Atrius
