Most Helpful Positive Review Best 1-8x scope in this range, worth $ for upgrade G4-BDC reticle,
Firstly, UTG newer reticle the German #4, BDC design and the UMOA on their other series scope, BIG improvement. Less scope "wash" reflection off the LED reflecting back in your eye, made early UTG scopes unusable for basic scope + green laser night use. Even on low intensity the older Mil-dot reti...

The good - optic clarity is awesome. Granted ive never owned high dollar scopes. Mid level nikon is best I have and this beats it. Light on green is bright enough for day. BAD - weight. Advertised as 18.5oz. I havent weighed it but its for sure way heaver than any other scope i have. And some are ad...

Shady's Back... back again 3x time purchase hard to beat

by foremanjf, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on June 8, 2024
Man i have tried so many LPVO 1-8 and 1-10x models and this thing is reallt hard to beat at the price point literally until to get to an EOTech Vudu.

And yes ive tried to Gideon 34mm 1-10x that just came out, disappointed by the eye box and eye relief of the Gideon.

Ive used the UTG 1-8x for night time reddot due to excellent 1x and can run this easy both eyes open.

As is typical and awesome avout UTG This has a very good eye releief and forgiving eye box. You have no trouble coming up at a wierd angle or distance and getting quick signt picture.

Sure if you got $600+ to spend to get a German and/or Japanese glass in a high end LPVO vs this Taiwan scope at $200 to get 1-2% better light transmission right for a few seconds at dusk go nuts.

You want to arm a small family of rifles for home and hunting and even tactical... Stop here and pair this wirh UTG air single piece mounts (included rings work but single piece mount FTW).

On the mark at $200

by Chris S, from NC, United States Written on November 9, 2021
The more time I spend with this optic, the more I like it. It looks like it grew on any AR platform. The BG4 reticle is a winner ! I mounted on 7.62x39 and zeroed at 100 yards. I didn’t get try the holdovers but they are prob close as they are tuned for 5.56 at 62 grains. Holds zero even with turrets unlocked.
Now the star of this show! Accu Sync mount- not pictured. I would select this mount over others at 4x the price and so this package is dripping with value. Illumination is far improved over a UTG i tried a couple years back and in my opinion, at that time UTG had bright light but the light would glow thought the entire tube, distorting the clarity and distracting the shooter. This generation has a dot that illuminates in the middle and the reticle remains sharp and useable. 8x power is clear edge to edge but in my latest scope, I see what appears to be a small piece of debris in the very edge at certain powers, but I doubt the average shooter would even notice. Someone in the market for this style scope and mount would have pay hundreds more for similar features. Home defense worthy-
Pros:
  • clear glass
  • Great Mount included
  • Holds Zero 7.62X39
  • BG4 Reticle
  • Improved illumination
Cons:
  • I found. small debris that may have been in the glass( barely mentionable)
Best Used for:
  • Home Defense
  • Target shooting

Good glass for a budget 1-8.I found BG4 Reticle to be very user friendly
Held Zero after 300 rounds of 55 grain 5.56mm.
ACCU-SYNC mount is great and was easy to mount on my Tavor X95
It is a SFP scope
Best Used for:

Meh... It's just ok

by CJ318, from LA, United States Written on December 19, 2020
As the title says, its just ok. The glass and reticle are impressively clear so no complaints there. The included mount and flip up lens caps are decent, especially to be included. For target shooting, this would be a great budget scope. I use it for target and hunting and that's where the flaws start to show... The zoom is too tight and requires a bit of effort to rotate and even locate behind the large box for the reticle illumination. A zoom lever would be a huge improvement for this scope. The reticle illumination is kinda cool, but definitely not necessary. Red/Green with brightness adjustment would've been sufficient although the dim light blue has been my favorite when I've actually turned illumination on. The biggest problems with this scope is that it has fogged up at the most inopportune times while deer hunting. It's also only somewhat usable above 6x zoom... If you look away and go back to the scope, forget about it. Its like trying to look through a straw hole. Zooming back down is required to get your sight view back. With those two issues, I'm considering returning.
Pros:
  • Looks great
  • lens clarity
  • variable brightness in all colors
  • Reticle is great
  • included mount and flip up lens caps
Cons:
  • Heavy
  • outer lens fogs
  • very poor view at higher zoom levels
Best Used for:
  • target shooting 0-250 yards

Almost great.

by Oaskie, Verified Owner from AL, United States Written on August 13, 2020
So I was impressed with the felt qaulity of the optic. Unfortunately when trying to zero it in...I maxed out my elevation. I'm still hitting about 6 inches below zero and cannot adjust up anymore. I tried contacting leaper via email but no answer as of yet, a month later. Also this optic is very heavy. Not sure why one would need 36 colors for their retical. Not a huge deal but you do feel that weight on your rifle.

Great value but you still only get what you pay for...

by mrbigs, Verified Owner from WA, United States Written on April 2, 2020
I was actually pleasantly surprised about the quality of this optic. That fact that it comes with lens caps and solid scope rings really speak to the incredible value you get at this price. However... the sight box is pretty awful. You have to get right behind the lens, just right otherwise you don’t get a good image. Even then you get some distortion around the outside of the lens especially when zoomed. The illumination is pretty worthless as well in my opinion. On a bright day you won’t be able to see it. Also, it adds a large square control box the the scope that makes it that much more bulky. A model without the illumination might be cheaper, lighter, and slimmer...

Great scope

by Drew, from OK, United States Written on February 7, 2020
Very impressed with the scope. Well priced, and has a great reticle. The illumination is great for low light. I put it on my AR and matched the reticle color to my blue laser. If I buy a new mid range scope, I'm going to be buying this again.
Pros:
  • Illuminated, good holdovers, turret adjustable
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • mid range hunting
