Most Helpful Positive Review You get a bit more than what you pay for
Let's be honest here. Everyone is interested in cheap optics because... well... they're cheap. Reviews are always a hit or miss with these things, and the inclination seems to be to just buy something beyond your means and be done with it (if only most people were afforded that luxury). But who does...

I bought this site to put on my m4 style ar. It looks awesome on the rifle and was very easy to setup and install. That its all that's good with this site. The first time I fired the weapon, I could watch the dot move. I though maybe I didn't tighten the adjustment screws all the way, so I screwed t...

I mounted this sight on a KelTec CMR30. I also have a UTG Magnifier mounted behind it. At 100 Yds.10 rds. inside a 4 inch square. I'm very happy with this sight. I've told many other shooters it. Thanks Optic Planet for having this product on hand.
Pros:
  • it works
Cons:
  • none yet
Best Used for:
  • Target, Varmint, Zombies, all around survival

Leapers UTG red/green dot

by Matthew Halvorsen, Verified Owner from NY, United States Written on August 25, 2018
I put this product on my 44 magnum for hunting I have not had a problem with it. It stands up to everything the says about it. It is shock proof by all means after shooting the dot never moved and I was shooting a 230 grain bullet which I thought would been a big of enough shock to throw it off and it didn't. It is worth its value by all means.
Pros:
  • two colors red/green
  • two colors for lighting
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • hunting and target practice

Great Bang for the Buck

by Switch, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on May 9, 2018
What can I say other than another good product from UTG / Leapers. I have several of their products and I would say I'm satisfied with 90 percent of them. This is not an optic to take to war or doing contractor work. But for everything else where you life does not depend on it, I would say buy it. I have every thing from UTG's , Aimpoint's, Trijicon's and ATN just to name a few. So I'm not some always buy cheap and think its great stuff type a person. But when something it built good and is budget friendly, you have to give praise where praise is due. If I was to say any negative about this optic, and its a tiny negative for my use. Its that the front lens is too reflective for my taste. But I made a killflash for it and that issue is a non issue now.
Pros:
  • cost , quality , lightweight
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Everything but LE, MIL, Contractor

not awful...

by rs, Verified Owner from MI, United States Written on March 6, 2017
It is about what I expected out of an optic in this price range. The things I really dislike about this particular optic are the picatinny quick-detach lever and set screws on the windage and elevation adjustment turrets.

The quick-detach lever has a couple issues in itself. First, when I put the optic on the rail, it sits nice and square, then when the lever is engaged to lock the optic to the rail, one side lifts up slightly. It isn't dramatic, but you can definitely tell the optic is not completely vertical when looking down the barrel. The other issue I have with the quick-detach lever is after shooting for a while, I notice the lever starting to creep from the locked setting. If never completely flipped to the unlock position, but it would definitely creeps and I have to push it back down after 50 rounds or so. I just have this on a Mossberg 715P .22 pistol that I use for plinking, so there isn't much recoil. I'm not sure if a gun with a heavier recoil would actually make the lever flip open or not.

With the adjustment turrets, I don't really care for each screw using two set screws to lock the turret. They work and lock down securely, I just don't like having to tighten four screws to lock the adjustment turrets on this sight. It's not the end of the world though.

For positives, I'd say it works alright for what I'm using it for. I hit decent groups with it, I just have to make sure the locking lever stays down while shooting. I like my optics to have both red and gr...

Super UTG 3.9" ITA Red/Green sight w/2 QD Mounts & Lens Caps

by Ppanthers, from TX, United States Written on February 22, 2017
This is my 2nd UTG 3.9 red dot sight and it worked just as well as the first. It holds 0 shooting P-Tac 5.56 ammo and keeps the setting without making additional adjustments. Mounting was super easy and it adds little or now weight to my Colt upper. I have astigmatism and was still able to see the green dot clearly without clustering. Also, another great transaction with OpticsPlanet and I thank you!

Leaper Red/Green optic

by gunsguns, from MD, United States Written on January 30, 2015
The price drew my attention. The optic works as advertised and then some!
Strong mount...holds zero and allows the use of iron sights as back-up.
Great product. Met owner at Shot Show. Appears to stand behind his products.
Took time to talk to everyone and answer any and all questions.

If you need an optic and price is a concern, look at Leapers!

good, not great

by ty, Verified Owner from SD, United States Written on June 4, 2013
Good product but the red dot was to big and almost too bright, I ended up putting it on my pistol grip shotgun for real close range home defense. Still, well build and solid though.
Always cheaper than anywhere else on this site.
Pros: durable, very adjustable
Cons: red dot to big, has glare

Gret sight for the money

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on April 16, 2013
This thing handled GREAT. Once zeroed I was able to run 500 rounds through both stationary as well as moving and bouncing around with no trouble. Never had to make an adjustment. Only con is the front cover. It will come off when opening but to be honest it is not that big of deal. I had no problems with haloing or blurry dot in either color. Even with the 3x magnifier the sight picture was crisp. It is an excellent sight.I would buy again no question.
Pros: Ease of use and set up, holds zero excellent
Cons: Front sight cover falls off

Blurry "dot"

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on March 9, 2012
The red dot is described as "crisp". I suppose Leapers and I have different understandings of the meaning of "crisp". Blurry, out of focus, amoeba-shaped with smeared streaks... Not what I'd call crisp.

Sure... one could think "the price is low and I shouldn't be holding such a high standard to this product." I don't agree with this. I purchased a Barska reflex sight instead. It has very crisp reticles... all four are perfectly defined and it works well in bright sunlight to a dark room.
Additionally, I found that the red-dot scope presents a lot of obstruction to my field of view. The reflex style sights are way better from this standpoint.
Pros: Inexpensive, mounts were nice, size and form factor were good
Cons: The dot was not "crisp" as per Leapers' description

UTG Does it again!

by Legacy Reviewer, from PA, United States Written on January 4, 2012
Put this on Ruger 10/22 with Strikeforce stock. Looks BAD@$$. If you are decking out a 22, buy this sight! Holds zero great. Works without flaw on the brightest or dimmest days. It mounted easy and is really solid for a QD mount. Only shot about 250 rounds so far but I'm more than pleased with it.
Pros: Holds Zero
Cons: None
