Most Helpful Negative Review i had to send it back and it never has worked
the reticle rotates in the tube if you adjust the magnification ring faster than a battleship turret and at only 16in lbs of torque (standard mounting pressure for most rifle scopes) the tube became deformed. I bought this for an m1a Vietnam reproduction I was building and I was highly dissatisfied with this optic. ill most likely end up using it as a piece for a fake rifle im turning into a lamp. I bought it after trying to find reviews on it myself and failing to find any. I now see why there aren't any

HI-LUX M40 USMC 3-9X40 Rifle Scope

by Robert, Verified Owner from IN, United States Written on March 24, 2024
Even though the scope finish was less than desirable. Since I really wanted this scope on a Vietnam era rifle. I bore-sighted it and took it to the range for the first time. Windage and elevation was erratic. Then it would not hold zero and then the objective lens literally fell out on round 40. So I wasted 40 rounds of ammo trying to get it to group properly. Needless to say. Do NOT purchase this scope. 0 rating is not an option. It's JUNK!

FYI! As usual. OP graciously generated my RO on their dime to return the defective scope, and credited my account for the cost of the scope in a timely fashion. I've already ordered a replacement scope from OP from another manufacturer, and waiting on it's arrival.

Low Qualty

by JJ, from NC, United States Written on December 30, 2023
The Hi-Lux production facility has issues with poor quality leaving their plant. Upon removing from the box the scope had a scratch on the bottom longer than an inch and was dented where the end cap meets the body due to the body being damaged before assembly. I’d also like to mention that nowhere on the scope is the country of manufacture shown. I returned this low quality item and will be buying a Leupold as was my original plan before I saw this. Definitely NOT anything like the scope they’re trying to copy.

Perfect for my M40 clone

by Jack, from CA, United States Written on November 8, 2023
There are not many options out there for M40 clone builds. This scope fit the bill.

Couple things to note, the green anodizing looks a little different than the image. I'm guessing the scope in the photo was from a different batch than the ones I received. Not a big deal.

I had my scope sighted in a few shots. I wish the green scope had the tactical hunter BDC reticle though.
Pros:
  • Looks great
Cons:
  • Wish there was a BDC reticle

Hi-Lux Optics M40 USMC 3-9X40mm

by hubie, Verified Owner from VA, United States Written on October 29, 2023
I received this scope in a reasonable time frame. After opening the box, I noticed some discolor areas that appeared to be in the green tone. When mounting the scope you really do not see these areas. The glass is pretty good compared to other China optics I have owned. I really wish that Leupold would have built a reproduction Redfield M40 instead of China.
Pros:
  • Cool color and a good copy of the old Redfield optic range finder.
Cons:
  • Made in China
Best Used for:
  • hunting

Looks Great on my M40

by Jack, from CA, United States Written on November 16, 2022
Came across this scope when looking for an original Redfield M40 3-9x with the green finish.

The scope's finish looks very nice, although a darker shade of green than most pictures I've seen of the M40 scope in Vietnam. Maybe the jungle conditions faded the finish on those scopes.

The rangefinder is an interesting concept and works. Basically you bracket an 18" target of known size. Change the magnification until it fits and then look at the tombstone for your range. Pretty nice to have a backup rangefinder in case the electronics go out.
Pros:
  • built in range finder
  • Green Anodized Finish
Cons:
  • Turrets require tool/key
Best Used for:
  • hunting rifle
  • m40 builds
