lgkl's Review of Leupold 20-60x80 Mark 4 Tactical Waterproof Spotting Scope
I studied very hard about spotting scopes given there are so many to choose from and given the amount of money I had budgeted. I actually tired of researching spotting scopes. I chose this one over the Swarovski 20-60x65 (due to price), a Pentax 80 w/ separate eye piece, another Leupold (12-40), Vortex's Razor and a Howa with similar specs. I wanted 60x and an 80mm objective and good quality glass. And preferably a spotting scope with a reticle. And for around $2000.
The selling factor was during my process this scope went on sale to around $1700s and it came with a $250 Gift Certificate. 'An offer I couldn't refuse.
This scope met my 'wants'. I just got it and have not used it a lot. But, I do not lose any resolution and get a clear edge to edge view scoping at 60x and so far out to 1300 yards. The photo showing the reticle, Mil Dot, makes the reticle look large and obtrusive. In real life it is thin and almost non-descript and does not block the view. The scope comes with a well made soft case that it 'wears' during use. The scope was made with military sales in mind and is very well made. Solid/robust. It is not a large spotter so stands very steady on my small table top tripod. I am most satisfied with my choice and it works for me!
