Great scope!
Great scope, just one word of caution. Leupold suggests that most 40mm scopes can be mounted with Low style rings. This one probably could be, but on a Browning BAR standard base its focus ring catches the base with Low rings. I'm ordering Medium rings now - don't get caught with this. Can't wait to try it out!
Always bought cheap scopes
I was from the $200-$300 is plenty for a scope. While there are some decent scopes in thus range none will be compareable to this Leupold. This takes it to another level that is hard to explain. The best way to say it is if you go to this price point you will be reluctant to use the more budget friendly models. My advice is save up for thus level of scope and be amazed.
Pros:
- Clarity, accurate tracking and eyebox.
Cons:
- Still looking.
Best Used for:
- I shoot steel & paper at 250-600 yds.

Ballistic Firedot is Awesome
Very clear optics. Love the 30mm tube with the 40mm objective lens. Using the scope takes a little trial and error. Zero at 200 or 300 yards andverify that it is on at 300-600 yards depending on the zero. Considering trying a 250 yard zero (350, 450, 550 for the hash marks) for my 7mm Rem Mag with the 162 grain Hornandy ELD-X @2950.

Leupold Scope
Love this scope on my Bennli R1. Dependable and accurate. Used the Leupold quick release rings low and happy with it. The rifle is a 300 mag so kicks hard, but with scope on getting great ahots at the outdoor range at 300 yards

- Hunting 10yd - 300yds

Great scope!
I’ve started to swap all my scopes out to the VX-Rs. Love them, price is right, crystal clear, illuminated, quality product by Leupold. I can’t tell the difference between my 2k Zeiss scope and the VX-R clarity. Don’t forget the alumina flip back caps. They’re expensive but a must have IMO. You will not be disappointed.
Pros:
- illuminated
- clearity of view , field of range
Cons:
- None

Great Scope
I purchased this for a hunting rifle. So, whight and clarity were paramount factors in my decisioin. The clarity of the scope is amazing. The fire dot makes sighting in low light conditions fast and easy. I would definately recommend this to a friend. I am considering purchasing another VX R for a new build I am just completing.

Great scope
On the Leupold website they have a "mount finder" under hunting and shooting and it suggests medium rings for this scope on the rifles I've inputted (Tikka). I just did it for long trac/short trac Browning BAR and it came up medium as well. I recommend using the Leupold mount finder function to determine which rings to buy. I fitted the scope to an x-bolt with low rings and there was no clearance between the scope and the barrel, though it did fit.

Perfect for magnum rifle
Totally happy with this scope. Wanted for my 300 Wby Mag hunting rifle. This 4-12 Leupold has almost 5" eye relief...perfect to prevent scope-eye when shooting a big magnum. Quality of glass is great. Red dot is not too bright for pre-dawn and post-sunset shooting.

Leupold 4-12x40mm Matte VX-R- Excellent Product
I purchased this scope for a Savage FCNS 111, 30-06 and I am extremely pleased with the purchase. The Scope clarity is excellent and the illuminated reticle is phenomenal for the lower light or overcast days. I only have 15 rounds through the rifle and scope, but the scope has been excellent. You will have to purchase scope lens caps/covers. The on/off switch for the illuminated reticle is very easy to use, and works as described- brightness is easy to adjust. I purchased the ballistic reticle, but have not been able to test it past 15 yards. Works as well as my other Leupolds. I really like the updated power ring adjustor, with an extended knurl- makes it easy to switch power, even with gloves. I prefer the turrets to not have covers, but this model has them. The scope overall should work well for the hunting task I chose it for.
Pros:
- Excellent quality from Leupold
- Quick power adjustment
Cons:
- None
Best Used for:
- Hunting in low light
