This scope has great glass that extends your evening. I even use it at night when the moon is out. The Firedot is excellent and I hope Leupold continues with the reticle and lighting adjustment settings on other scopes. As someone with not the best eyesight, I appreciate the multiple reticle settings and colors for different conditions. 3x9x40 is a nice setup for me personally, although I may look into higher max range options now available.
Pros:
- Firedot reticle
- high quality glass
- great lighting settings
Cons:
- Flip up caps should be standard

I mounted mine on a shor barrel remington 700 .308 I own and its stood up to the recoil exceptionally well. As with most leupolds the glass is very clear and acquisition on a target is fairly easy in low light conditions thanks to the illuminated fire dot

I bought this scope for a family member as a gift. My sister in law loves it. The optics are bright in dim light, it is easy to operate, and is resistant to harsh treatment during use. The point of aim stays steady once adjusted. This is a great product at a reasonable price. Leupold wins the day.

Hate the TMR Reticle. This scope has Adjustable External Yardage adjustments, that are very easy to move, and could cause an inadvertent adjustment and miss in a hunting situation. Gentlemen, a 3x9x40 scope is not designed to be a long range shooting scope!
Yardage adjustment caps are held in place by three TINY allen screws, and if you do not lose them the first time you tale them out, you are extremely lucky! I was lucky.
I own and love a Leupold 3x9x40 VX-R with a Ballistic FireDot Reticle. I use it for night
varmint & hog hunting and it works great (Part No.111236). The reticle is great, and has screw caps on the scope adjustment turrets and works much better. Does not incorporate the gimmicks that this scope has. Buy the Model 111236. It is a great scope with, much more practical, with not all of the useless gimmicks!
Cons:
- Tiny yardage Turret Caps
- Bad Yardage Adjustment Turrets
- Too Gimmicky
Best Used for:
- Sending back to the manufacturer

Fit and finish is typical Leupold. I re-scoped all my rifles this year and spent a small fortune. Interesting thing is out of the 6 luepold's I purchased 3 of them had a white residue on them. Called Leupold they said it was from the waterproof testing they did. It came off fairly easy. Just seemed like that would be something done in Oregon. Other than that no issues. Sighted in and been to the range a few times and everything is G2G.
Pros:
- Good optics for the money
Cons:
- White residue on scope from tested

Very very nice scope, very clear and bright. Bought 2, shooting on a Creedmore and Grendel. No issues with electronics. Very clear and bright glass.
Only complaint is the reticle is hard to use. There is almost no distinction between 1 MIL and 0.5 MIL hashes. So at 300 on my Grendel I need to aim 1.7 MIL high, so I find myself struggling to put the target between the 3rd and 4th hashes. My eyes focus on the hashes trying to distinguish between them, rather than looking at the target. But for the price its quite a scope. Very good solid mount, good glass, and illuminated reticle for around $500.
Best Used for:
- Target / Competition shooting
- Hunting,

Scope arrived on time. Scope was defective out of the box. reticle was about 8 degrees off level, and small moisture drops were visible inside the eyebox lens. Went through Leupold. Said it would be 36 days until they could look at it. Told them to replace not repair.

Just a heads up, even when I notified OP of the wrong information weeks ago they have not changed the specs this is a MIL scope not MOA as the specs state. That being said, this is the best scope I can find for the money in its class. Glass is really clear, it is lightweight, illuminated with a straightforward reticle. The eyebox is very forgiving and mine tracks very well (even though it is MIL).
The only few cons that comes to mind is the reticle is a little thick when you get to 600-700 yds, but it is a minor gripe. I wish it came with scope caps (similar to vortex scopes) and not the rubber bikini type that it comes with. Overall seriously impressed (other than the MIL) and this is the best choice under $700 in the magnification range.

My order came quickly (as always from OP). I installed it, leveled it and bore sighted it. But I haven’t gotten to the range yet. Fit and finish are perfect (as always from Leupold) installation was no problem and and I didn’t have to move the crosshairs more than a few clicks to get a zero.
Pros:
- Functions well, was economical
Best Used for:
- Target, rifle class, fun in the Arizona desert...

Let me start off by saying that the clarity in this scope is very impressive, I mean even clearer than my normal eye sight. I have absolutely no problem seeing things at night. Now on to the cons: The electronics which control the fire dot reticle are complete trash. Not only does the automatic shut off not work but the Light mode button jams up after pressing it about 5 times so I have to unscrew it, remove the battery and put it back on in order to get it to start working again. Normally I would say this isn't a big deal but I expect more from a 500 dollar scope. Unless you can get it at a significant discount, I cant in good faith recommend that you buy this scope.
