I use these sights on several rifles. I like the way they look and the size seems right for the rear aperture. I am currently changing the factory installed 17A on a Mossberg 144LSB to a higher model to go with a Lyman Model 90MJT rear sight.

Much better sight than the fiber optic that came with my smoke pole. I was looking for something that i could put on the smoke pole for hunting that would give me a little more long range ability. This gave me that because I can make out my target better. Very easy to install and is very solid. Highly recommend.

Bought this to replace the factory sight on a Marlin 39A 22. Got model AHB due to the feeling that the 0.404 height would work best in my application. The issue I have is cosmetic. The dovetail base is about 9/16" wide. The front sight ramp is 3/8" wide. So if centered on ramp, there is 3/32" sticking over the ramp on each side. I wish it was narrower, or at least it was easier to cut down. If trying to cut it down, it would require blending the curves near bottom. And I assume some re-blueing
Pros:
- Nice sight picture
- includes inserts

I have this on two rifles now and panning more. Do some old military rifle shoots. The small app. insert with the small hole in it works best for me on target shooting as you can center it on the bulls eye and there is no guess work as to weather you need to aim high or low. You get very consistent results.

I put this on my Savage Rascal (pack rifle) and combined with that accu-trigger and rear peep it feels like a match rifle. Easy install- just a few stokes with a jewelers file and it pressed right in. That 3/8 dovetail seems pretty universal. I wish I could upload the pics I took to sow the look and sight picture.
Pros: Easy install makes my rifle feel like a match rifle
Cons: Uh, none that I see

Optics Planet has the lowest price! I have this sight on my 1970's vintage Mossberg 144LSB. It is a great sight and changing the apertures allows the shooter to adjust the front sight to the light conditions and the target. If you lose the extra apertures you can order replacements directly from Lyman. Optics Planet carries replacement apertures also.
Pros: Great sight, still in production
Cons: None

The Lyman 17A is a classic sight. I purchased mine for my M1895 Guide Gun and it works wonderfully. The Lyman 66 is a beautiful sight, easy to use, and as accurate in the hands of a skillful hunter. I've yet to miss with it.
Pros: Easy to use
