trail's Review of Magpul Industries X-22 Backpacker Stock - Ruger 10/22 Takedown

the x22 bp works as intended turning your 1022 into a 1 pce unit in takedown mode for easy transport in a say a backpack and the extra storage is a bonus, but it eliminates the barrel band on the fore end. this pce is designed to fit both the bull and standard barrel. the thinner barrel leaves a gap on each side with a little round plug on the bottom to support it. mp just needs to make a bigger u shaped adapter to cradle the barrel and fill in these gaps to mimick the barrel band. the fore end screws into this metal block with a second screw same as the action which houses the td lever and two smaller screws which go into the barrel. mine were loose and they dont automatically line up straight when tight. so they could come loose or you could knock your barrel off center inside the fore end bc of the gaps. i used loctite also. maybe not a problem with the bull barrel but i think this is an oversight by magpul and why ruger has the barrel band there. if you dont have a 1022 already consider getting a regular model/non td, and then a folding stock or deserttech bullpup which is twice the price of mp. if i had to do it over i would prob get the charger model w a folding stock for a backpack gun which could be deployed alot faster.
Pros:
  • works
Cons:
  • fore end
