Necessary for a Larkspur!
I have a Larkspur I carry daily too and from work. This shoulder pad is necessary if you plan on putting any type of load on the bag as it's pretty uncomfortable without it. The pad is affordable and I guess they keep it optional to keep cost down a bit, but it'd be a good idea just to include it in the original cost.

Good Replacement Part
I have used these as replacements for my duffle bags that are thirty plus years old.

Not unexpected for Maxpedition
This shoulder pad does everything that you would expect. It evenly distributes the weight from your shoulder strap to a wider area on your shoulder. I like the fact that it can slide along the strap to find the most convenient spot to carry your bag, too. Good product!
