I had a set of Meprolight front and rear 1000m sights for my AK74 which fit like a charm but I had to remove the rear sight when I replaced the dust cover with a Texas Weapon Systems hinged railed cover. For my Palmetto State AK103 clone, I ordered the 800m sights because the PSAK had 800m sights and they were considerably shorter than the 1000m rear I had, so I didn't think they'd fit. Now, I have a different model railed dust cover on this AK, which doesn't use a hinge bolted into the rear sight bracket but an adjustable tension plate to lock into the recoil spring, and a heavy-duty spring-loaded wedge to keep the front equally tight to the receiver. Think FAB defense but a different manufacturer.
The Meprolight 800m rear is still considerably longer than the stock sight, so the new dust cover (and possibly the old, I didn't check. I wouldn't think so, because a stock AK cover is a bit smaller) prevents the elevation from being set correctly. If I wasn't using an optic as the primary method of aiming the rifle, it would be a considerably bigger problem. As it is, I've got essentially a fixed-distance set of BUIS. Not the biggest problem, but a little disappointing.
On the plus side, the sights themselves are just as fantastic as my other set. Tritium is easy to spot from behind the rifle, but doesn't glow like rave.
