Most Helpful Positive Review Nice upgrade for DPMS LR 308
I chose this product in order to upgrade my front hand guards that were the drop-in style on my DPMS LR 308. I’m fairly certain that this was a GEN 1 rifle, with the low profile rear upper. The gas block, was a large contraption with the Piccini rail on the top. I also had to order the new low profile gas block from precision arms (.750) to fit over the barrel and allow for adequate clearance to the new hand guard. This kit comes with everything that you need with the exception of the new gas block. The installation took 15 minutes. Removal of the old Forward hand guard attachments and rear ha...

Another nice piece from Midwest

by Lets Go Brandon, Verified Owner from IN, United States Written on February 14, 2026
As a lightweight handguard it's exactly what I wanted. I have no plans for a clip-on, or I'd have chosen the heavier duty option. It probably still would be fine from a tripod, but loading a bipod way up front does cause it to flex slightly. One problem I did have is that it did not clear my Odin .875" adjustable gas block. I was able to shave it down a little, but if I were buying parts for a new build, I'd look at a lower profile gas block. That's not the fault of either manufacturer. My barrel with a .750" gas block seat clears, as well as the larger diameter with a +2" gas system length. A little file work was all it took to ensure it is free floating.
Pros:
  • Looks good, lightweight, and easy to install
Cons:
  • None

Great rail for a upper build. Easy to install. Use by a major gun company building their uppers . Solidly built. Using this on a second 18" AR 10 chrome lined barrel build.

Great handguard

by John, Verified Owner from SC, United States Written on September 27, 2025
The handguard is as expected. Used it to replace a carbon fiber hand guard that was on the rifle already. The lug fit well. Haven't shot it yet, but look foward to it. Also happy that there is a picatinny rail now.

Great product, missing important note

by Cody, Verified Owner from NE, United States Written on October 10, 2023
Great product as always from MI. That said, not included is the sometimes needed extended dust cover rod. This rod is only purchased through Midwest industries ($5 plus $10 shipping). Not all uppers require this longer rod, however some do. Without it, the standard rod is able to walk out far enough forward to come out of the hole in the upper on the side of the forward assist. Not all uppers need this longer rod, however it would have been nice to know this. I can’t put this on optics planet as Midwest industries also neglects to mention this on their website also. For the price of the rod, I feel it should be included with the rail. Otherwise great product and service from optics planet! For reference my upper was a PSA gen3 lr308.
Pros:
  • great quality
Cons:
  • Missing information for parts compalibility

Great Handguard!

by Uberdead, Verified Owner from MD, United States Written on September 10, 2023
After much hijinks trying to upgrade my ar-10 from looking like a classic oversized m16. A new adventure in ill fitting handguards ensued. Glad to find one brand (actually two) that fit perfectly. The manufacturers actually recommended the brand. So glad it was available.

Midwest Industries is always good to go

by JoePa, Verified Owner from WI, United States Written on November 21, 2022
Bought this rail to put on a Palmetto State Armory receiver. The rail lines up perfectly. It feels amazing as well. Top notch machining. Midwest barrel nuts are designed so you do not need to time them, just torque them down and install the rail.

Great Handguard and barrel retention

by Joel, Verified Owner from MN, United States Written on October 1, 2022
Midwest Industries doesn't disappoint here on the overall quality/fit/finish - however I will say that I had to carefully trim down the top blue insert (the little feet on it) so that it would seat properly between the barrel nut and the upper receiver - I think this can sometimes happen when the barrel extension outer rib is a little thinner, like on the Proof barrel I bought. Once this was completed though, the barrel nut is completely firm and stays put.
Pros:
  • barrel fit tight
Cons:
  • Needs Trimming
Best Used for:
  • AR10 6.5 Creedmoor, .308
