Most Helpful Positive Review Excellent Gas block
I like the Midwest Industries Gas block quite a bit. I just wish it was lighter in weight. Overall good product for the price paid. I do recommend this product as it's robust and economical. I do hope in the future MI has updated this item with lighter weight models.

Midwest Industries upper height gas block

by Rifleman270, Verified Owner from UT, United States Written on May 29, 2024
This is a fantastic gas block, the perfect solution for an AR15/AR10 rifle with Delta ring and end plate combination. this type gas block allows for various types of flip sights to be mounted just forward of the hand guard, and it matches the the height of the picatinny rails on most AR Receivers. some have complained it might be a bit on the heavy side and suggested having it made of aluminum. in all honesty aluminum is a very poor material for a gas block. super hot gas pass from the barrel journal and into the gas block this will cause the aluminum to overheat and start eroding metal into the system causing premature failure down the road. i have looked intensely to find a Quality pic rail gas block combo. most i have found were made in China using aluminum. i'm pretty sure this one by Midwest Industries is the best one to get. i have been building AR15, M4, and M16A2 variants since the early eighties, I would not steer you wrong.
Pros:
  • Best gas block for flip sights
Cons:
  • An adjustable version would be nice
Best Used for:
  • standard c
  • Standard Colt and Magpul polmer handguards

Midwest ind. upper height gas block

by Rifleman270, Verified Owner from UT, United States Written on May 26, 2024
This is the perfect solution for an AR that uses a Delta ring and end plate combination, the four slot rail matches the height of of the picatinny rails on a standard M4 receiver perfectly, allowing for the use of flip up sights. some have complained about this item being on the heavy side and have suggested using Aluminum instead of hardened steel. The use of aluminum in a gas block is not smart, the super hot gas entering the gas block from the journal will immediately start eroding the aluminum away, creating most certain problems down the road. its no surprise to me me that the majority of Aluminum gas blocks come from China. do yourself a favor and get this one by Midwest industries, you will be hard pressed to find a better solution. My name is David and i have over 40 years experience with the M-16/M4

Tank Solid

This is a great rail height gas block option. It’s lines up perfectly with end caps to attach your drop-in Handguard and give you solid Picatinny rail to add sight of choice. It’s iron clad product built to withstand to pressures of the AR platform

Midwest Industries Upper Height Gas Block With Machined Rail For .750 Diameter Barrels

by Hunt n Fish, Verified Owner from IN, United States Written on January 23, 2023
Seems to be a good product. Midwest is usually good for putting out very good parts. The only negative I can see with this, is the weight. Maybe they could of milled some material from it to lighten it up. So, makers are putting aluminum versions on their uppers, or ones that are not same plane as the receiver. This fixes that, only downfall is the weight. Aluminum is a dumb material to use for a gas block, especially if your doing anything serious, as it will erode where gases flows over time. Do it right the 1st time and use steel.
Pros:
  • well built, makes same plane
Cons:
  • weight
Best Used for:
  • correcting uppers that should never of been that way to begin with, either with using aluminum or just not same plane.

Midwest Ind STEEL pic rail gas block.

by me, Verified Owner from MO, United States Written on January 19, 2022
As one other reviewer noted, it is heavy, but if you want light weight buy an aluminum block. This block is steel, so I don't know what they could do to lighten this up, other than cutting it down to a 3 slot block. What more do you want me to write Optics Planet???
Pros:
  • Holds up better than aluminum, well made
Cons:
  • None
