Joseph Gentile.'s Review of Nikon Force XR 2.5-8X28mm Pistolscope

I have two of these. One is matte black on my Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle in 308 and the other stainless on my Super Redhawk 44 mag. The lenses are crystal clear. The one on my 308 has had the same zero on it for 4 years now despite shooting 20 to 80 rounds every range trip. Every time I take it to the range it shoots a 3 rounds cloverleaf at 100 yards right where the crosshairs are set. Adjustments are positive and turrets can be reset to zero after sighting in. The caps are a simple 2 full turns to take off and put back on and the warranty is idiot proof. Add to that the Nikon SpotOn ballistic match software that will make your dope cards for you and this is a cant lose scope especially at half the price of the Burris and with 2 more magnification settings. It's a very versatile scope as long as you understand that the eye relief will change about 4 inches throughout the power range. At 2.5 it's perfect for arms length on the pistol, while at 8x it's about right for the scout scope mount on the rifle which is closer than the end of my arms. Given the intended use you can improvise field positions to make the eye relief right for your power setting although it may not always be perfect off the bench, it's not a conventional scope. I own two of them, and I only bought the second recently, the first one has about 1200 rounds of 308, 4 states, and some hard use on it, so it's plenty durable.
Pros:
  • price clarity warranty durability
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • scout rifle scope or heavy revolver where shots vary from close to farther
Would Recommend: Yes
