Most Helpful Positive Review Nikon 3-12x42 Nikoplex reticle
All my guns, but one, carry Nikon Monarch scopes. The one that doesn't uses a Nikon Prostaff. I purchased this one for my new Browning X-Bolt. I only use the Nikoplex reticle (I keep it simple and plain crosshairs is what I was raised on). I have found these scopes to be reliable, durable and hold their point. Compare them to the Leupolds, etc. You'll find that they are better in some aspects or just as good. But you're not paying that extra $50-$100 for overrated name. I have Nikons in several different magnifications and all are outstanding in their performance. You surely know their reputa...

monarch 3 3-12x42 side focus

by William, Verified Owner from TN, United States Written on February 13, 2020
Good so far, but only used for short range target with a brand new .308 that is in break in process. Have not backed out with it yet or hunted with it yet, but fully expect this scope to perform as all my other nikon scopes do. Sharp and bright, but has not been tested yet in low hunting light conditions. Price was right with optics planet.
Pros:
  • Sharp and clear
Cons:
  • can't think of any
Best Used for:
  • hunting
  • target

Another fine Nikon Product

by Paul, from CA, United States Written on January 23, 2017
I own several Nikon BDC rifle scopes but this is my first one with a first-focal-plane BDC reticle. So far, I'm very happy with the scope and I now don't have to worry about being at a specific magnification in order for the BDC circles to accurately correspond to my 200, 300, and 400 yard holdovers. The BDC circles become a bit small and hard to see at the lower magnifications but I don't really need them for shorter range shots anyway. Typical Nikon quality and a good scope for the money.

NIKON MONARCH 3 RIFLESCOPE BDC RETICLE

by DANNY M, Verified Owner from NY, United States Written on July 13, 2016
I am a big fan of Nikon scopes. I own at least 7 Nikons scopes fro years as well as some Leupolds, Redfields, and Weavers. The Nikons have always the clearest and brightest as you would expect. The BDC option is excellent if your Target shooting or Hunting at extreme ranges. The scopes are reasonably priced and very well made. I was a little disappointed in the scope covers that were included with the scope. They are absolutely the worst scope covers I ever seen and I would be embarrassed to include them with the scope if I was the manufacturer. The covers are flip up that will not stay shut. Nikon could have done better. What's interesting I have an account with Nikon and I sent them a nasty email concerning the scopes. I also just purchased 2 Weaver Kaspar scopes which are much cheaper in price, but seem to be very well made for alot less money than the Nikon. After all you don't want the scope to be more expensive than the rifle. Nikon never responded via email, but I was notified that UPS has a delivery from Nikon, so they may have sent a replacement. Nikon is still my favorite scope, and if cost was not an issue II would purchase this item again.
Pros:
  • Excellent clarity
  • Very bright and well made.
  • Excellent BDC recticle
Cons:
  • None

Great scope for the $$

by Dave, from ID, United States Written on July 7, 2015
I purchased this to replace a Leupold VX2 4-12x40 AO. My problems with the Leupold were the AO out and the end of the scope and the tiny reticle. I simply could not see it (I'm 62). The Nikon is as bright and clear as the Leupold and the reticle is perfect. Great for small targets and medium to long range and very visible. In the addition, the custom elevation dial I ordered for my .223 is spot on and returns to zero perfectly. Have taken dozens of tiny ground squirrels at varying ranges so far.
