LensWork's Review of ODIN Works AR-10 Adjustable Buffer
First, the Odin AR-10 adjustable buffer is the correct length — 2.5” — if you are using a standard AR-15 Carbine buffer tube (interior length ~6 15/16”). Much of the time when an AR .308 Carbine has cycling issues, it is due to using the wrong buffer and/or spring. If your build uses a standard AR-15 Carbine buffer tube (receiver extension), you cannot use an AR-15 Carbine buffer; it is too long to allow for the additional travel distance of the longer .308 BCG. Given the necessary shorter length of the buffer, there is a smaller window of flexibility in the buffer and spring that will result in reliable function; the adjustable weight of this buffer can save you a lot of time — and headaches — getting your build dialed-in. The only improvement that I would like to see from Odin is to offer this buffer with two tungsten weights, making the total max weight 5.5 oz. It comes with one each of aluminum, steel and tungsten (it can use any combination of two weights) for a range of 3.04 - 4.68 oz.You can of course buy additional tungsten weights; I happened to have an extra tungsten weight that came with the AR-15 version of this buffer that I did not use on my M4E1 build. Obviously I liked the AR-15 Carbine Odin adjustable buffer so much that when it came time to buy the parts for my .308 Carbine, I chose the Odin AR-10 adjustable buffer. A repeat customer is probably the best endorsement a product can have.
