Most Helpful Positive Review Excellent recoil reduction.
I've only shot one 2gun match and one range day with this since I installed it. Installation of the buffer was easy with the only difficulty being driving out the roll pin in my bolt to remove the weight. For testing I ran 112 rounds of a mix of 124gr AAC and Belom along with a 33rd mag that I loade...

Most Helpful Negative Review Extremely difficult to rack. Makes weapon impractical for competition or defense.
I'm so disappointed. I read the reviews and watched the videos saying this was difficult to rack, but thought that how bad could it be, I'll just get a large charging handle to compensate. Wow was I wrong. You have to break your grip and position on the weapon in order to get enough leverage to char...

RDB for me

by Terry Vandiver, Verified Owner from AL, United States Written on July 11, 2026
The RDB absolutely reduces felt recoil. A bit pricey? You definitely get what you paid for. Looks to be well made. Installation can be 'fun'. If you are replacing the buffer and spring. I would suggest loosening the castle nut, remove the detent (you don't need it) drop in the RDB. Adjust it so there's no preload or play in the bolt.
Pros:
  • Reduced recoil substantially
Cons:
  • Increased effort to pull back the charging handle
  • Increased effort to charge. Mine takes about 25 lbs to break.
Best Used for:
  • Fun. So far it's flawless but I only have about 220 rnds through it.

Totally worth it

by Mike, Verified Owner from MN, United States Written on June 7, 2026
Many years ago I built a 9mm AR and thought it was going to be so cool. I always hated the heavy slow recoil and with the can, there was so much blow back, gas in my face. I added weight to the buffer system to reduce the gas but it didn't do anything but make the recoil more disgusting. As cool as it was, I hated it. It pretty much sat in my safe. I saw the RDB and my hopes were raised. Would it reality help or was i throwing more money at a gun i didn't like? I took it out yesterday and ford it and not only did it reduce weight, it made the recoil a quick little snap. It was so much better i was firing doubles and triples. No malfunctions at all. I'm only a couple of mags in but it was flawless I was enjoying so much. And then I realized I could still see and breathe. No gas in my face. That RDB made the gun what I was expecting when I built it. I'm so glad I bought it

Disappointed

by Red, Verified Owner from MO, United States Written on June 1, 2026
I'm disappointed because I can't use it. They don't tell you anywhere in the description that you have to have the maximum defense, buffer and stock for this thing to work. I will be returning this item and getting the carbine length.

Perfect fit for the SD HBPDW

by BordertownUSA, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on May 3, 2026
I can’t yet comment on its function, but it seems well made. It was a perfect fit in the HBPDW to replace the busted up buffer. I did want to comment on the negative comments stating that this makes the weapon too hard to charge. Unless there are quality control issues that produce different results, I don’t see that as a problem. I’m an average size man and I don’t have an issue charging without breaking my grip. It does take a little extra effort to break free the locking system, but it’s very manageable with the small Breach charging handle.

worth the money

by Zak, Verified Owner from MN, United States Written on April 26, 2026
Own 2 now for separate PCC’s. Much better recoil impulse than 8oz buffer and spring.

Thomas Parker

by Tparker, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on April 5, 2026
The maxim defense roller delayed blowback system significantly decreased muzzle rise and recoil making follow up shots faster. Easy installation with minor gunsmithing( pin removal from rear weight in bcg) to remove bcg weight. Works well with suppressors.
Pros:
  • It is a roller delayed blowback system
Cons:
  • No directions for install

Roller delay buffer

After many years of tinkering this is the best buffer system I have ever found for ar9s. Super smooth, very mild recoil.

Better than expected

by Eremmick, Verified Owner from IA, United States Written on March 28, 2026
I purchased this in a recommendation of a fellow competitor. My only PCC experience was with direct blow back. I've shot others delayed guns, but didn't want to spend the $$ on a completely new system. Aside from the initial resistance when pulling the charging handle, this buffer is amazing. There's still recoil, but it is completely manageable. The dot does not move. My only regret is not switching sooner. You will need a bolt carrier that has a hollow rear as this buffer system is captured.
Pros:
  • Works as advertised
Cons:
  • a little pricey (but worth it)
Best Used for:
  • Competition & defense

Part is well made, and works amazing
Charging issue is overrated in my opinion
Would buy again
Pros:
  • Qaulity
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Suppressed

Great piece of kit!

by Gene, from AZ, United States Written on February 4, 2026
With so many variables on a 9mm AR , it's always nice to have another tuning option that can reduce reciprocating mass. The felt impact of the carrier is felt less with a bit of weight reduction I n.
Pros:
  • less weight
Cons:
  • Can be a pain to remove from the buffer tube
Best Used for:
  • PCC
