Plano Rifle Case

by Capt. Mike, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on July 5, 2017
I have a few different rifle and shotgun cases and this is one of my favorites. It is well built and significantly of better quality than the green AR case with exposed magazine pouches. The zipper flap over the mag pouch area serves well for documents, spare batteries, etc. The case has good stitching and impact dampening material in the muzzle and stock area. Good value for the cost.
Pros:
  • quaility
  • Cost and fit
Cons:
  • extra zipper area would be nice
Best Used for:
  • AR platform with optics

Just About The Perfect AR15 Case

by RaginCajun76, from LA, United States Written on September 29, 2016
I purchased this Plano Molding 800 Series Gun Guard 42.5" AR15 Case for a new Windham 5.56mm HBC rifle. I wanted a case providing good protection, was large enough to fit my AR with a vertical handle and a 1-6x24 scope, yet not huge in size. This case fit my needs perfectly.
This case comes with comfortable carry handles and also has a removable shoulder strap that I keep in the zippered magazine compartment. I really like the fact that the side zippered cover makes the 5 magazine pouches less obvious.

The zippers are very smooth and seem sturdy. The carry handles are well stitched and extend at least to the bottom of the case. I can't tell if the are continuous around the bottom but they appear to adequately hold the case. Both ends, and the lower part of the case have a rubberized layer on the fabric. Padding is more than adequate for a carry case, but not so thick that it gets bulky.

My two, truly minor complaints/suggestions are:
1) if I center my AR in the case it doesn't carry level and puts a strain on your wrist. I do know the rifle is barrel-heavy. I found if I moved the rifle butt all the way to the large end it carries much better.
2) there are no interior tie-down straps for the rifle. Not really necessary as I'm careful with it but they'd still be nice to have. Just FYI.

All in all, this is a great case and I would recommend it to others.
Pros:
  • Big enough, but not too big.
  • Well made with good materials.
  • Covered, 5-magazine storage compartment.
Cons:
  • No interior tie-down straps - Minor
Best Used for:
  • Just about everyone.

Pros:
  • Good Quality, Reasonably priced
Cons:
  • None

Sturdy Case at a Great Price

by Sanbury, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on February 12, 2016
I needed a case to take my AR15s to the range and back and this one fit the bill. Sturdy yet not too bulky, had a shoulder strap and a zipped outer compartment to hold magazines. For casual use this bag is a great value.

My only slight criticism is not with the bag itself but the packaging. I ordered 2 bags and they were shipped separately on different dates. The first one came in box that was the size of the case so that one was fine. The second one came in a small box and the case was FOLDED in half which means that the bag is constantly flopping over when standing empty in my closet because the "spine" has a permanent bend/crease in it. Wasn't worth the money to ship it back and no guarantee I'd get the replacement in the correct sized box so I kept it.
Pros:
  • Quality construction
  • shoulder strap
  • outer compartment for mags
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • going to the range and back

Fine bag!

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on May 13, 2012
I purchased a new S&W M&P AR15 and needed a 'bag' or case to carry [and protect] it because the local gun ranges don't appreciate uncased guns before you get to the firing line. I also wanted a case that I could grab n go. This case has a nice sling and has a zippered side pocket containing 5 pouches that accommodate 30 round magazines. Overall, a good finish outside and inside. Also, delivery was faster than expected and arrived in excellent condition.
Pros: Better than expected & prompt delivery
Cons: None

One of kind case

by Legacy Reviewer, from PA, United States Written on February 9, 2012
I tried several tactcal rifle cases that supposedly would accomodate a scoped rifle but none of them worked. This was the ONLY case that I have found with enough heigth to allow a handle mounted scoped rifle to fit. The construction material, zipper and padding are of excellent quality.
Pros: A full size AR15 with handle mounted scope fits!
Cons: None
