M109 Steel Rain's Review of Primary Arms GLx MicroPrism 1x Prismatic Red Dot Sight

This optic is phenomenal. I already have the SLX 1x model. I would have bought the SLX again but Optics Planet had a president's day sale on the GLX for the same price as the SLX. I figured I'd try the GLX to see if it's any better. The thing I like most about the GLX over the SLX is the 1/2 MOA increments in adjustment as opposed to the 1 MOA adjustments for the SLX. This allows for a more precise zero process, although keep in mind it's only a 1x optic so it's not a huge deal. If you prefer push button illumination as opposed to a rotary knob, then you might prefer the GLX. As for glass clarity, my untrained eye can't tell the difference between the GLX and the SLX. I think both optics are excellent choices. It's just a matter of preference as to which works best for you. Either way, you can't go wrong with these micro prisms. For all the doomsday peppers out there, these make great end of the world optics. They're very durable by nature and even work without batteries given they have etched reticles. Not even your high end red dots can boast that capability. Just keep in mind the limitations of a 1x optic. If you want to make precision hits at 400 or 500 meters, there are more suitable tools for that purpose. Having said that, you won't be disappointed in the realistic capabilities of this little guy. I highly recommend it!
Pros:
  • Small, lightweight, durable, and appropriately priced for us common folk
Cons:
  • None that I can think of
Best Used for:
  • CQB distance out to maybe 300 meters (your skill level will dictate your effective range)
Would Recommend: Yes
