Most Helpful Positive Review Pws end plate and castle nut
I used this to assemble an sb tactical sb3 kit to an aero m4e1 lower. Everything assembled nicely. I like idea of haveing an alternative to staking the castle nut and being able to easily undo if desired. I have not run the firearm yet.
Most Helpful Negative Review Quality control definitely lacking
I purchased three of these a few years ago, and they seemed to work fine under minimal use. However, I purchased four within the last month and they are definitely lacking in quality control when compared to those first three. The end plate key/tab doesn't properly engage the channel of a mil-spec...

My "Go to" for all my AR builds

by John in Fargo, Verified Owner from ND, United States Written on April 26, 2026
The rachet locking feature is great. I don't stake, and I have never had one come loose. They are quality machined and have a great finish. I have them on all guns that use them.
Pros:
  • Finish
  • Qualify of design, machining and materials
Cons:
  • Price $$$ - unfortunately good things come out a price.

Best Castle Nut Combo

by Simo, Verified Owner from CO, United States Written on April 1, 2026
This set makes it very easy to get the right amount of torque on your receiver extension without having to stake the castle nut after installation. The QD mount on the end plate is a + and the finish is solid and consistent. Will definitely be using on all my future builds.

Primary Weapons System (PWS) Ratchet Lock End Plate

by Pete, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on March 8, 2026
The Primary Weapons System (PWS) Ratchet Lock End Plate is absolutely the best and easiest way to secure an AR’s Receiver Extension (i.e., buffer tube) to the lower receiver. When the ratcheted Castle Nut is tightened against the End Plate it provides an excellent lock that will not vibrate free under extended use. Many reviews will say that no staking is necessary, and that is unquestionably true. Most manufacturers recommend that a standard Castel Nut should be torqued to 40 ft/lbs. Since many home builders don’t use a torque wrench for this purpose, there is no telling how much torque is being applied to tighten the nut. With the Ratchet Lock End Plate, a builder can use much less force to attain a good snug fit that will hold over extended use. Another plus is that the ratcheted Castle Nut can easily be removed using a standard Castel Nut Wrench for maintenance or Receiver Extension change-out. This can be done numerous times with the reuse of the same Ratchet Lock End Plate parts. The fit and finish on the PWS parts are outstanding and bears a very nice look for a quality build.
Pros:
  • Good tight fit
  • Outstanding fit and finish
  • Can be used multiple times
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • AR Builds

Fantastic set

This is a great castlenut and end plate that ensures you don't need to stake it. However, it is a one and done item. If you ever take it ofd, don't reuse it!

Go to End plate

by kurt, Verified Owner from NJ, United States Written on February 14, 2026
Originally several years ago, I simply wanted a QD socket end plate..I ended up going with the PWS end plate and never looked back. I’m currently have two and have never had a single one back out. Not having to stake the castle nut is always nice as well. Well worth the investment.

PWS Ratchet Castle Nut & End Plate

by johnchip, Verified Owner from CT, United States Written on August 3, 2025
I have used the PWS ratchet castle nut and endplate on 10 by builds. I use to stake all my castle nuts but this system is better for my needs. I've never had any back out on me and they are super easy to install. Also easy to remove when needed. Some people say they back out and that it isn't good to reuse them as the detent will wear down but I've never had anything like that happen over the past two years of using them. If you don't want to be bothered with staking the castle nut or or this is your first build then I highly recommend this product.

Excellent upgrade to a critical component

by GreyKnight, Verified Owner from NV, United States Written on July 14, 2025
I'm guessing i'm not the only one who has had a castle nut wrench slip and chew up the nut / scratch a buffer tube... this is the solution!
As a bonus it makes changing the buffer tube much easier and cleaner than having to stake and re-stake a castle nut.
Easy to use, looks great, work even better. Only problem is the p[rice is kind of ridiculous for a castle nut and end plate.
Pros:
  • Fit and Function
Cons:
  • Price $$$
