Most Helpful Positive Review Pulsar Trail XQ30
I purchased this PulsarXQ30 for hunting pigs, coyotes, and other varmits at night in wooded timber/pasture land in Texas. It has been everything I wanted and more. I was able to identify deer at over 800 yards away. The clearity within a couple hundred yards is very good. I strongly recommend this product for a beginner thermal or for anyone who does not want to break the bank. This product is priced right! Thanks Optics Planet!

Great Thermal Optic for the Money

by fireman, from OK, United States Written on February 17, 2019
I had the privilege of hunting with the Trail XQ 30 for several months. It arrived well packaged with everything included to mount the scope to any rifle having Weaver style bases. After charging the battery, I was ready to sight it in. One of my favorite features is the one shot zero and the ability to have different shooter profile. This makes sighting in quick ( I recommend using a hot hands or ice cubes wrapped in foil ) and easy. It also gives you the ability to store different zeros for different shooters, rifles or distances.
I primarily used the Thermal for hunting wild hogs in Oklahoma. The Trail XQ 30 is a fixed focus optic. You do have the ability to focus the eyepiece but as far as focusing on objects at different distances, unfortunately you can't. That is the only reason for the 4 stars. With that being said, you are still able to pick up heat signatures on deer and hog sized animals for several hundred yards without any trouble. If you are hunting animals that are within 100-150 yards, the fixed focus is not an issue. The Trail XQ 30 is a perfect thermal for those distances.
I put this unit to the test is some less than desirable conditions with temperatures in the 20's as well as drizzle and even rain. While these were not the best conditions, there were never any problems with the device failing due to temperature or moisture.
The features of this unit are simply a bonus. You have the ability to record video and photos as well and the W...

Turns out you don't need to spend $5000 to get good thermal

by Poppin Piggies, from TX, United States Written on December 7, 2018
Before I tried the Trail XQ30, I asked a lot of people about “the best thermal for the money.” Turns out you don't need to spend $5000 to get good thermal. The Pulsar Trail XQ30 has a picture-in-picture feature which manes the first shot a perfect one, leaving the field of view open for fast follow-ups.
The 17 micron 384 core has remarkable clarity, boosted by the AMOLED display. I can't say enough good things about this unit. Compared to competing units with 320 cores, the XQ30 wins at detection range due to having 44% more resolution: 320x240 pixels (so 76,800 total) versus 384x288 (110,592 total).
After using this unit, and one from Flir and other from ATN, it’s Pulsar hands down for me, and that's before you even get to image quality. Flir has no sound, crappy batteries, customer service problems, lack of PIP. Those are deal-breakers for me. I won’t even talk about ATN. It was so bad.
Lately I have even been taking the Trail XQ30 on daytime coyote hunts. When the light is weird, yotes are hard to spot—but they can’t hide from thermal. It seemingly sees straight through grass, tree limbs, and brush that fool our naked human eyes into seeing nothing. I’m a very happy customer.
Pros:
  • Picture in Picture
  • Rechargeable Batteries
  • Pulsar Customer Service
Cons:
  • Included mount could be better
Best Used for:
  • Merkin Stuff
