Most Helpful Positive Review Must Have For Any Reloader!
A simple but very effective tool when it comes to getting the media out of tumbled cases. A must have for anyone with a vibratory tumbler; just dump the cases and media into the internal basket, close it all up and give it a few turns to separate all media from brass - a huge step up from clearing cases by hand. Now that I'm reloading progressively, media-free cases mean a happy press, so I'm quite pleased with this product. So far I've used it for pistol cases only, but I'd expect it to work just as well with rifle cases so long as you give it a few extra turns. Since it is all plastic co...

Great Case Separator at a Great Price!

by James, from NV, United States Written on October 12, 2019
I've been using this RCBS case separator for years now despite reloading on a big red press. It's super simple, easy to use, and effective. With this separator it isn't necessary to use the slotted lid on your tumbler to drain the bulk of the media out before removing your cases (thereby raising a lot of heavy-metal laden dust) - you can dump everything directly into the black basket, close it up, then turn the handle a few times to make sure your media has all filtered out. The design of the basket ensures that so long as the green lid is closed, the inner basket is closed as well.

My only gripe is that the hinges are all plastic (to be expected) and the plastic is showing some white stress marks on the green hinges. If they break I figure I can upgrade them with metal hinges from a hardware shop.

One tip: when pouring the media back into your storage container, it's
easiest if you separate the two green halves and pour the media into the top lid; depending on the mouth of your container, the circular bottom of the bottom lid can cause a sudden avalanche of polishing media as you pour from it, potentially spilling media on the floor. This doesn't typically happen with the non-stepped top lid.
Pros:
  • Simple to use
  • Intelligent Design
Cons:
  • Plastic hinges may break over time
Best Used for:
  • Reloading hobbyist

Works like a Charm

by Keith, Verified Owner from OH, United States Written on September 22, 2019
I have been using a large slotted spoon to scoop the brass out of my cleaner. So when I saw this and after reading reviews and checking prices, I went ahead and purchased it. With the price and free shipping (ordered some other stuff too) I am very satisfied with this purchase. The separator does an excellent job of removing all the media from the case and also the primer pocket. The top is hinged so that it is easily removable when done separating. The bottom holds all the media in my cleaner (Dillion CV-500) with no problem. The basket is also hinged and does snap closed when separating. Just a couple of turns in both directions and the media is removed and the brass can be removed from the basket with ease. It is all plastic and seems to me that it is sturdy enough for what it is used for. Since receiving it, I have cleaned 2000 rounds (200 at a time) of 9mm with no problem.
Pros:
  • good price
  • Works very well
  • Hinges look to be able to last awhile
  • Keeps the dust down and media contained
  • Simple to assemble and to use
Cons:
  • N/A

So much eaiser

by Craig, from TX, United States Written on May 11, 2017
This unit works great. I wet clean my brass with steel pins and they were a pain to separate from the brass after cleaning. Now it is a breeze with this rotary separator. I usually give it about fifteen or 20 rotations back and forth and job is done. Now I am not saying I don't ever have a couple of pins stuck in the flash hole but it is way less than before. Best part no more tapping cases to get pins out of the inside of each one.
Pros:
  • makes case cleaning eaiser
  • quick clean up
Cons:
  • None

Works as advertised.

by James Tate, Verified Owner from PA, United States Written on November 4, 2016
I process 4 to 6 K rounds a year using a wet steel pin system. Product works very will to remove steel pins from 223 cases. Given the pros and cons's below I have changed my process from a small batch of 100 shells to no less than 500 per batch. Not a big deal and keeps the time to clean and remove pins more efficient.

Would I buy this again? Maybe. There is a different one out there for a 5 gallon pale that looks better to me. I can imagine filling a 5 gallon pale part way with something like sand for added weight for stability.
Pros:
  • Gets all the pins out as it says it does on a 223 case. Doesn't take long, 10 or so revolutions.
  • Large, I have done 500 round batches and the device will clearly hold more.
  • Easy to clean up and store, although pretty big.
Cons:
  • BIG, made for large batches. A smaller version would be better for my use.
  • Not hardly worth the effort to drag out and fill with water for small 100 case batches.
  • Light weight for it's size, and being slippery plastic, slips and slides around until you fill with water.

Eliminating drudge work

by sof, from PA, United States Written on April 30, 2016
I was very skeptical as to the need for a media separator, figuring that a strainer and a bucket were just as good as these rotary devices, so I have done it manually for several years now. How could this device be any more thorough than tumbling the cases by hand? I'm still not sure of the reason, but boy was I wrong about the method. This method and the RCBS version of it could not be better.
Cases come out as close to completely empty as you can imagine with no mess and no fuss. And, the RCBS has a nice lid latch to ensure that you don't dump it all over if you get a little too energetic and knock things over.
In all, a nice simple time, mess and work saver that is well executed.

RCBS Rotary Case/Media Separator

by Bluetip, from LA, United States Written on February 24, 2015
The RCBS Rotary Case/Media Separator is an excellent product. I looked at other similar case/media separators but settled on this one after reading reviews on internet blogs. I was pleasantly surprised to observe the effectiveness after several rotations. If it were not for my clumsiness, I wouldn't need the magnet I purchased on the same order. This is one of the best additions to my reloading tools.

separator used ss media

by groundhog, from NC, United States Written on October 22, 2014
I bought this to separate stainless steel media from cases, and it works perfectly for me.
I dump everything in, turn the handle, and flush it all with fresh water(outside). Then remove cases, dump out excess water, rinse the media while in the green tub with fresh water, and the ss media remains in the separator until its
needed it again. This eliminates for me the ss media loss that I had before( its not cheap)
