Rhino Block for Moderate to High Speed Bolts with Filed Points

by Dave - ETX, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on July 18, 2025
The Rhino Block is a decent archery target for stopping bolts w/filed points traveling 460 fps and under. I use mine for shooting 375 - 425 grain bolts powered by high pressure air. They average around 450 fps. I could remove most bolts with one hand on my first shooting session. I'm not seeing a lot of foam coming out with the bolts. A quality backstop is still recommended to set up behind the Rhino Block. If the target moves upon impact or if you shoot into it at an angle (shooting through a corner) you may get a pass through or a shot stopping at the fletching with the tip penetrating the backstop. I cannot say how this target holds up long term, but removing bolts from this target has been easier for me than removing bolts from a bag target where bolts can get stuck. I also cannot say how this target performs in below freezing temperatures.

The size is nice for portability and the incorporated rope handle makes it easy to carry to and from an automobile. I haven't weighed it but it feels lighter than 20 lbs. I don't think it is an adequate backstop for anything traveling at really high speeds 500 fps and up. I'm thinking that bolts traveling that fast will blow through this target. It seems that newer Rhino Block have a replaceable core insert. It is also good to note that you may received a blemished target. They all don't come out looking perfect like the advertised photos seen on various sites.
Pros:
  • Lightweight
  • Compact Size
  • Easy bolt removal
Cons:
  • Not adequate to stop extremely high-speed bolts
