Athlon Rangecraft Chronograph - Affordable, Compact, and Convenient
Written on Sep 20, 2025
I’ve used a couple of other chronographs and the bane of my chronograph use has been setup time and missed shots. The Athlon Rangecraft eliminates both of those issues. Once you’ve charged it and read over the instructions, just unzip the storage pouch, screw in the short tabletop tripod, set it on the table next to your gun/gun rest (but behind the muzzle), turn it on, go through a few prompts, and start shooting. It’s so convenient to use and it can be used as a standalone unit or it can be used in conjunction with the Athlon Ballistics app D/Led to a mobile device. If used as a standalone unit you can sync the collected data with a mobile device later via the Althon Ballistics app and add notes, change the title of your shot string, and do any necessary shot string editing. The title change will only be displayed within the app, not on the chronograph. I also like the fact that I can screw in a tripod adapter and attach the Rangecraft to my Primos Trigger Stick tripod allowing me to collect data while standing up shooting offhand or shooting off of a tripod. I have noticed that the Rangecraft reads velocities approximately 10 fps faster than my Competition ProChrono DLX, but the readings tend to be pretty consistent even at archery velocities. The integrated internal rechargeable battery lasts for at least a few hours. I have yet to run it down completely.

Rhino Block for Moderate to High Speed Bolts with Filed Points
Written on Jul 18, 2025
Review for
Rinehart RhinoBlock Target
The Rhino Block is a decent archery target for stopping bolts w/filed points traveling 460 fps and under. I use mine for shooting 375 - 425 grain bolts powered by high pressure air. They average around 450 fps. I could remove most bolts with one hand on my first shooting session. I'm not seeing a lot of foam coming out with the bolts. A quality backstop is still recommended to set up behind the Rhino Block. If the target moves upon impact or if you shoot into it at an angle (shooting through a corner) you may get a pass through or a shot stopping at the fletching with the tip penetrating the backstop. I cannot say how this target holds up long term, but removing bolts from this target has been easier for me than removing bolts from a bag target where bolts can get stuck. I also cannot say how this target performs in below freezing temperatures.
The size is nice for portability and the incorporated rope handle makes it easy to carry to and from an automobile. I haven't weighed it but it feels lighter than 20 lbs. I don't think it is an adequate backstop for anything traveling at really high speeds 500 fps and up. I'm thinking that bolts traveling that fast will blow through this target. It seems that newer Rhino Block have a replaceable core insert. It is also good to note that you may received a blemished target. They all don't come out looking perfect like the advertised photos seen on various sites.

Good Pair of Starter Hunting Boots- 1 Year Review (2 hunting seasons). Held Up Well So Far...

Irish Setter Gunflint II 2813 Boots - Men's
I have owned the Gunflint II boots for over a year and used them through two squirrel and deer seasons primarily in the woods of East Texas. I have hunted wearing the Irish Setter Gunflint II 1000 gram insulated boots in the autumn, winter, and spring. Keep in mind, THESE ARE NOT SNAKE BOOTS! I have worn them in temps down into the 20s (Fahrenheit) and up into the low 80s. My feet remained dry (be mindful to wear socks appropriate for the weather) while trekking through light snow, dew and rain-soaked foliage, creek bottoms, and dry woods in warmer spring weather. They protected my feet and ankles from green briars and thick brush while providing adequate support when having to drag a deer or sliding down a short embankment. They don't seem to hold a ton of mud, although I didn't make it a point to walk through a lot of thick mud that went over the top of the toe of the boots. I have briefly slipped into creek water where the water came just overt the top of the foot of the boot for a moment and my feet remained dry. I would say that I have worn them comfortably for periods up to 4-5 hours. I have walked 3-5 miles in a day in these boots without adding inserts and my feet felt fine afterwards.
When putting them on I recommend loosening the laces almost all the way down, pulling the tongue forward, and opening the collar of the uppers before trying to force your foot into the boot. To lace and comfortably tie them try starting from the mid-foot area of the lower laces, pull

Great Kit! Robust Binoculars with Clear Glass and Good Light Transmission
Written on Nov 05, 2021
I purchased these after purchasing a pair of Raptors which were returned very quickly. The Vortex Diamondback HD 10x42 OPMOD Binoculars were a big step up in quality. They are built to last, the center focus knob turns easily and can be manipulated with one finger. The only thing I’m not really fond of is the plastic composition of the twist-up eye cups on the ocular lenses. I’m not confident that they will hold up and remain waterproof over time, but time will tell. They are pretty light and don’t feel heavy around my neck using the neck strap. This is great for use in the outdoors whether birding or surveying your farm/ranch, or your surroundings on a hike. For spot-and-stalk hunting of small to medium sized game or pest animals, I suggest removing the neck strap and using the harness. This will situate the binoculars around the solar plexus area. It keeps them from swinging as you squat, bend, and stoop, allowing you to free your hands to hold/steady your weapon and other gear as opposed to holding swinging binoculars to your chest (using the neck strap). The down side is that brushing up against the nylon case makes noise so you have to learn to work around it in order to move discretely. I think this is a good kit for glassing the terrain while hunting medium to large animals within 150-200 yards. I haven’t used them beyond that range. All in all this is a great kit. I don’t know a lot about binoculars, but these are a step above entry level and they appear to be built t

These Suck. They May Be Suitable for Children

Vortex Raptor 10x32mm Porro Prism Binoculars
The eye relief on these are horrible. I couldn’t really see much of anything with them. If you wear glasses these aren’t for you. I returned them quick and bought some Diamondback HD binos. I absolutely love my Diamondback HDs!!

Quality Compact Soft Case

Review for
Spikes Tactical 30in Rifle Soft Case
I was thoroughly impressed with the build quality and quality of the material. It is a basic clamshell-styled soft-case, but doesn’t feel like a cheap sporting goods store or Walmart type of material. It feels more like canvas. The handles are pretty thick and sturdy. The manufacturer didn’t skimp on the stitching. This bag appears to be built to last. I have not owned it long, but I have a good sense of quality. The padding isn’t very thick, but I’d trust it to protect the contents from a moderate drop from 3’ - 4’ and light knocking bumping around. This bag fits compact bullpups and carbines nicely (measure your gun before ordering). It comes with two velcro straps to secure your gun to the inner side of the case. You can likely find more at a hobby or fabric store if you desire more to better secure your gun. Keep in mind there are no pockets or pouches to hold mags and other accessories in or in this bag.

Great Glass for the Price Point
Written on Jun 23, 2021
I caught mine on sale for close to $200. That’s an incredible bargain!! I’ve mounted this scope on a couple of air rifles and it’s on the money from the bench and offhand. The glass is clear and bright. The turrets are decent and don’t have a lot of slack/slop in them. If I were to be nit-picky I could point out that sometimes you have to turn the elevation and windage turrets slightly beyond where you find your target in order to be able to push them back down into a locking position. The good thing is that it will seldom affect your adjustments. I really like this reticle style. The illumination is a BIG plus because the reticle hashes and markings are a little thin for my liking and can get lost against a dark target especially in shaded areas or woods. The reticle illuminates in red and green. I also like that the battery compartment for the reticle isn’t close to the ocular lens making this scope easy to pair with a greater variety of scope camera accessories. The Alpha 6 is built solid and tracks well. I’ve had it for about 3 months and it has held zero without issue. The parallax turret is smooth and accurate. I’ve taken game as close as 10 yards with no problem. I recommend this scope for airgunners, beginners, hunters on a budget, or maybe even as a back-up scope for bench shooters. Aim Sports Inc. also makes an Alpha 6 in 2.5-15x50mm. Five stars for features, build, and overall quality at an almost entry level price point.
