Most Helpful Positive Review Works great with my Ruger Gunsite Scout
I love my gunsite scout, but the recoil was fairly hefty and caused some flinching issues for my daughter. The Ruger hybrid muzzle brake is identical to the factory brake on my Ruger Precision Rifle and was pleased to find that it work without issue in my GSR. installation was simple. The hardest part was removing the flash hider on the GSR (hint: a torx 60 bit and an impact wrench made quick work of the flash hider). Attaching the brake required only an adjustable wrench and a bit of blue thread locker. Recoil is greatly reduced, but it's now very loud. For me, the trade off is totally wort...

Very good at reducing recoil on a .308 rifle

by LivesNearCostco, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on June 6, 2018
I bought one to replace the factory flash suppressor on my Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle in .308 with a 16.1" barrel. I used a T-60 socket and battery-powered impact wrench to remove the flash suppressor then installation and indexing of the muzzle brake was easy using the supplied jam nut and an adjustable crescent wrench. Felt recoil is significantly reduced--I estimate 30% or maybe 40% less. Apparent muzzle blast is markedly increased if in an enclosed shooting bay. When I shoot it at a range with open benches, concrete floor and wooden roof about 10' overhead but no side or back walls, I don't notice the increased muzzle blast, or at least it doesn't bother me.

But when shooting in an enclosed shooting bay with concrete floor, cinder block walls (bay space is 36-40" wide) and wood roof 8' overhead, the muzzle blast is very loud and annoying, possibly due to the shorter barrel on my rifle. In the open bay the shooter 3 benches over could feel it, but nobody was complaining. In the closed bay, the blast was bothering me a lot even though I had both ear plugs and some cheap ear muffs on. I think it was because the end of the short barrel did not protrude beyond the side walls so the pressure wave was bouncing off the walls, floor and bench to ring my sinus cavities. But the solid side walls also prevented the muzzle blast from bothering the other shooters. Going forward I'll use this at an open shooting bench but not in an enclosed shooting bay, and I would recommend not sittin...

Awesome muzzle brake for the money

by Randy, from NC, United States Written on March 21, 2018
Very good brake for the money no blow back when shooting from the prone position. Calms the muzzle flip down so you can acquire your target better. Very easy to install in minutes. Not to mention that it look great on the end of the gun. Would definitely recommend this product and I’m sure I will be buying another. Ruger really hit a home run developing this.

Perfect Accessory

by dondee133, from NJ, United States Written on June 9, 2017
Shipping was fast and the product was easily installed without concerns about crush washers, shims or timing. The back nut holds the Brake on tight. At the range the device just works. Cut down on recoil and kept the barrel down.
Pros:
  • Works as advertised
Cons:
  • none thus far
