Expert Review

One Size Fits Most

by Jeremy L., Gear Expert from IL, United States Written on September 16, 2015
Short of slapping on a $15 nylon universal holster, finding a kydex/polymer holster that fits a wide array of different firearms is dang near impossible-until now that is.

I was lucky enough to get one of the first models of this 578 GLS pro fit holster from Safariland and to be honest at first I was under impressed at the idea of it on paper. "Ok great, a holster that works with a bunch of different guns, why would I need that?"

Fast forward a few months later and my viewpoint has done a total 180. I can't tell you how many times this holster has come in handy. I carry a Glock 19 every day and have on occasion used this holster to do just that. The retention is perfect, not too tight, not too loose but even if it wasn't, there's an easy to access adjustment that you can tighten/loosen with the gun on your hip to dial in that retention to "mhmm just right" levels.

I think where this holster really shines is with someone that owns several handguns of roughly the same size and shape. This one holster will work with a wide range of common shape/size pistols like a Smith and Wesson SDVE 9. HK USP 9, Glock 19,23, HK VP9, and through my own trial and error my Beretta Full Size 92. Throw this holster on and it's up to you which pistol you feel like carrying that day or which gun you want on your side out in the woods or hunting.

Another great idea for this holster is to have one as a backup for when you take a friend shooting or if you're training students in case what they brin...

Most Helpful Positive Review Great Holster for New Firearms on the Market
When you purchase a gun that has not been out on the market long you run into a real issue when trying to find a holster for it. I purchased a S&W M&P CORE Ported 9 mm and found that most of the holster manufacturers were not making a holster for it. I tried the Safariland 578 Pro Fit holster and lo...

Most Helpful Negative Review Recent Holster Purchase
There is just too much wiggle in the holster when the pistol is locked in. While the locking mechanism functions, the pistol rattles in the holster when moving. I'd like something a bit better fit. The retention release is awesome, but overall I will not use the holster.

Safariland Holster

by Loodie, Verified Owner from DE, United States Written on February 14, 2025
Got this holster for a CZ Shadow 2 Compact with a Holosun 507 Comp mounted. Was dubious at first, however, holster is adjustable and locked right down to the firearm. I have better choices for EDC CC, but this will make a great retention holster for open carry situations.
Pros:
  • Price
  • Modular
  • Retension
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Open Carry/Retention

Range Holster

by Jfree, from GA, United States Written on June 15, 2022
I bought this for my PDP compact to have something for the range. I was a little skeptical but safariland makes quality stuff so I gave it a try. After some tweaking the retention is very good, there is some rattling when holstered as mentioned by another user but it does not affect performance. Takes some getting used to unholstering and after a while it’s second nature to draw. I’m not sure about retention during a struggle and I would let my training coordinator test this before applying for duty use. Great range holster, just make sure you get the proper model for you pistol using safarilands website.
Pros:
  • Universal applications
  • Universal application
Cons:
  • some wiggle
Best Used for:
  • range/competition

Works well

by Happy customer, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on May 9, 2020
Grip lock allows you to still get highest and tightest grip on your pistol. Thought that would be the issue but nope, and fits my cz75p01 as it can be adjusted to fit others as well, would reccomend.
Pros:
  • Multiple gun use
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • OWB

Nice Holster

by J.R., from KS, United States Written on February 12, 2020
I am really happy with this holster. I would not use it as a duty holster, due to the type of retention used. I do like the fact the holster can accommodate multiple firearms, and there is some active retention. Use it for range days and concealed carry. Great holster for the money.

Good holster

by Jesus, from NV, United States Written on February 19, 2019
I bought this for my sig scorpion 1911. I tried the regular 578gls first and found its was too tight sliding in and out, my grip hit the inside of the holster. I also have a p320 which needed the wide 578gls, so I too it back and got the wide. The 1911 slides in a lot better, and I can can use with the p320 also. The 1911 has slop side to side, but you can tension it up so it not bad at all. With the 1911 you have to use the shim provided with the kit. But so far I like it!.
Pros:
  • Its comfortable, and light and it fits close to my body.
Cons:
  • It feels a little flimsy.
Best Used for:
  • Open carry, and the range.

Quality Product

This is a great holster system for someone looking for modularity between your platforms and also want a button-release holster system. I bought this for my Glock 17 and it does also fit my Glock 19 perfectly (although they do sell a seperate holster for the Glock 19 and similar sized pistols). The front side lip of the paddle has a unique “bend” that conforms nicely to the hip, but probably “restricts” comfortably if you move the position of the holster more toward your apendix. But overall it’s hard to find a system like this, that does it better, for a better price!
Pros:
  • Price
  • Modular
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Conceal Carry

Good versitie holder for the money

by JC, from SC, United States Written on January 15, 2019
I bought this holster for my 1911. Due to the size, I had to install the shim (provided). The holster does require some additional adjusting to get the correct retention. Too much retention results in the lever not releasing the gun. The holster does hold it closer to my body than Blackhawk...however, I would prefer it to be tighter to the body. Overall, I would rate this holster an 8.5 out of 10.
Pros:
  • easy to adjust
  • Fits different models
Cons:
  • Does not fit close enough to body
Best Used for:
  • Open carry

A great holster

by Patrick Warneka, from IL, United States Written on January 21, 2018
In the ever growing sea of holsters, It is nice to find one that is well made and comes with such a wide range of positive reviews. Everything seems to be getting fatter in my life, my dog, my boss and my mother-in-law so it is a pleasure to have a holster that is not wide. It does not print much at all, has a slim profile and holds the gun with a well tested GLS system I am pretty sure it is Latin for finger lock has a year, it was so second nature. I am sure my dog will recover from the drama of my draw test. The Promotion material says it can hold over 200 guns, I had just enough room for my Glock 19 and not much else. Then I realized it was not 200 all at once. That made more sense and helps explains the very low shipping charge that OP charges to ship this product.
I ordered the one in Black with Black highlights and accents. You may not want to carry around that flashy but that is how I roll. They even sent me a matching black wrench for the gun. Talk about spoiling the customer. That Paddle is actually very comfortable. If you are ever up a creek, this is the paddle you will want. Easy to slip on and a well thought out hook makes it easy to remove the holster without looking like you are trying to dance to a Justin Beiber song.
