Most Helpful Positive Review Great quality, price, usability
I use the 6280 for my Glock 21 w/ tac light. This holster is great! It's very easy to use, the draw is quick and it's secure with the tac light attached. Great duty holster for any law enforcement officer! Pros: Secure, solid, easy to use Cons: Slightly bulky, but most are

Good duty holster once broken in

by Dan Pizzi Firearms Instructor, from FL, United States Written on April 20, 2019
Too tight from factory but easily fixed. Coming from IDPA & USPSA backround and ALS only level 1 holster, there was a transition to this more secure level 2 holster. It does take about 1,000 draw Strokes done properly and slowly to get used to this holster design. The key is to index your thumb on the back of the hood to rotate forward before you get your master grip. You have to put some of your favorite gun lubricant in the SLS mechanism to smooth it out. The holster was way too tight around the firearm out of the package. To loosen up the holster I had to disassemble and "unfold" The holster so it would loosen up its side to side retention on the pistol itself. Spraying silicone lubricant on the suede liner everyday for a week will slick up the holster too. I work in armed security and are often in close proximity to other individuals so having an extra level of security with this classic holster helps. I have no interest in level 3 (on Safarilands retention scale) security holsters because the speed of deployment is too slow for me even if I'm able to get my draw and first shot on target in under 2 seconds with them. (with a security holster I aim for 1.25 second draw to first shot when practicing). Yes, it fit my Glock 17 Gen 5 with Ameriglo Sights. YMMV with holster break in periods.
Pros:
  • Comforatble
  • Secure
  • Reliable locking
  • Mid ride height
Cons:
  • Long Break In Period
  • No cant adjustment on UBL
Best Used for:
  • duty
  • Open carry
  • security

Safariland is always quality you can trust

by Werl, from AZ, United States Written on January 16, 2018
It may be an older design but it still meets my requirements and can be accessorized if needed. Works well with O-light Valkyrie PL-1 II rail mounted tactical light. I've been using a different holster for 8 years but learning and getting used to a different retention system was intuitive and not a huge learning curve.
Pros:
  • Still among the best options
Cons:
  • none yet

Safarliand for Glock 19

by Colin, Verified Owner from IL, United States Written on July 28, 2016
I ordered this for my Glock 19 using a Streamlight TLR-1 HL. Everything fits nice and snug. Easy to draw with adjustable retention. Have not used on duty yet but should stand up as well as previous Safariland gear.

Fit too tight

by sheriff, from TX, United States Written on January 30, 2015
great holster but the leather interior made it hard to use with an extended slide release. I had to dremmel out the leather interior out. Wanted a serpa but department policy won't allow it. The spring retention device takes some getting used to if you aren't familiar with it but several night of practice can fix that quickly.

Best Duty Holster Yet!

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from KY, United States Written on April 11, 2013
I purchased this holster after trying several others without satisfaction. I thoroughly like the look of this holster so I figured I would give it a try -- I'm glad I did! This holster is excellent and by far the best duty-holster I have had yet. I will continue to wear this holster for years to come I am sure. I now plan on buying a similiar holster manufactured by Safariland from OpticsPlanet for every-day-carry. This holster is top-quality as is OpticsPlanet's service.
Pros: Excellent retention; ease of use; ease of care.
Cons: NONE!

SAFARILAND COMES THROUGH!

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on November 11, 2012
For years, Officers have been searching for a holster that would accommodate a Glock weapon light. Since my department utilizes the Safariland 6280 (as many departments do), I was happy to see that Glock had stepped up to the plate.
Now this holster is bulkier than any that I've ever carried, but that's a part of the 6280 design. Rolling over on this baby during a weapon retention exercise was a nightmare. It was, however, able to withstand my 225 pound frame without breaking.
It takes some practice to get used to the draw. My thumb missed the release button on the hood a few times and that cost me a second or two. Once you've gotten it, I think it's a very fast holster though. How that will play out under duress remains to be seen.
The Safariland Universal Belt Loop (UBL) makes for a much more comfortable carry. I can wear my Glock without becoming tired far longer than I could with other holsters.
I personally would have preferred it in a Kydex finish, but I had to go with the Dept. mandate. The Hi-Gloss finish does clean up well when the holster is new though. I look forward to seeing what it'll look like after years of use.

Pros: Holster a perfect fit for Glock weapon light
Cons: Heavy and Bulky
