k-Roll's Review of Samson MLOK Grenade Vertical Grip

First the "Delta's":
1. To install you first attach the MLOK base, then mate the grip onto the base in the grip channel and turn the knurled knob until tight. My problem here is, this know can come loose as there is no curved or lock washer to ensure it stays locked up. After realizing it was loose at the range I considered "STAKING" the knob to the body but this would require a small recess to be cut into the grips body. For now, I use medium loc-tite and really reef down on it.
2. Changing it's location isn't like throwing the lever of a QD style grip. I didn't think this would bother me, but while training at the range I realized I had placed the grip too far forward. The adjustment would have involved a wrench to break the knob loose, then removing the base with its Mlok screws. Then reverse. It's at this point that I realized the versatility of a QD lever style grip.

POSITIVES:
1. This thing is solid without being overly heavy.
2. The lock up is solid (Although I did have one instance where the knob came loose, This MAY have been operator error, IDK).
3. Price. It is right there in the sweet spot where its not ridiculous like the other popular brand accessories, but you pay enough to have confidence in the product,

RECCOMMENDATIONS:
A. Devise some sort of mechanism that ensures the knob will not break loose.
B. Develop a model that has a QD base. This way someone who owns multiple grips ALREADY can buy one or two and easily swap grips as they deem necessary. Just making a new model WITH this feature will just screw the customers who've already bought your product, many companies do this. They withhold an upgrade until the item has flooded the market and then deliver the new and improved version. It pisses us off.
Overall a good product with multiple options, solid materials and a diamond in the rough. Selling a stand-alone QD base plate for these would be a good move.
Pros:
  • Price point
  • well machined
  • Great fit and feel
  • Solid materials
Cons:
  • Knob has no mechanism preventing loosening
  • No stand-alone QD base plate upgrade offering
  • Relocating or removal requires tools
Best Used for:
  • Your CQB Battle Rattle
