Most Helpful Positive Review HKPDW....fits perfectly on PTR MP5 clone
Just received my SB Tactical HKPDW brace today.I was easy to install and worked perfectly on my PTR 9CT. The brackets fit perfectly on the gun and did not sctatch my gun in any way. Locks up at each notch on the rail and looks great on the gun. SB Tactical hit a homerun with this baby. Great product...

Most Helpful Negative Review Does not fit well on real HK SP5...
SB tactical is a great company and they do listen to their customers. The HKPDW brace used to have large protruding allen screws that conflict with SP5 sear block, now the screw heads are low profile and do not need to be ground down or removed to fit. A small cut in the H buffer and it pops right o...

Overall very nice

by Brick, from TX, United States Written on July 2, 2025
The only thing I wish they did different was the deployment mechanism. I have the CZ scorpion model as well and I feel that push button style should have carried over to this platform vs the lever they used. That said, this is still an effective brace a tad heavier but its also mostly steel which on a brace like this, is really not necessary. Overall happy with it as is and I can train past the weight and deployment type.
Pros:
  • None
Cons:
  • Heavy. Odd engagement switch

Solid albeit pricy alternative to an A3 stock & SBR

by Jimmy, Verified Owner from SD, United States Written on April 8, 2025
First, a handy tip. Before installing, unscrew the 2 screws at the bottom, then slide it on and insert the screws later, it'll save you major headaches, at least on the MAC5.
Using the brace as designed, it works well. Unlike some competing braces, there's plenty of extra play on the arm strap and the rubber is flexible enough that you can easily fit your arm in there, yet it's easy to keep it in place once you tie down the strap. I'd recommend when shooting this way you do not extend the brace so its easier to use the sights on the weapon.
Should you choose to place the brace against other parts of your body, it also excels. The rubber material absorbs alot of the recoil which is already minimal with the MP5, and the cheek weld, while inferior to a folding stock (and presumably the SBT-5) is manageable if you place it high enough.
Regardless of which way you use it, it is much easier to hit your target compared to freehanding it. I was missing at least half shots just trying to freehand it before I got the brace, and while I didn't keep track when using the brace, it was much easier to stay on target.
The brace itself is very well built and sturdy. It does not wiggle and does not feel cheaply made. Once installed it's easy to slide the Brace forward and backward, or lock it in the desired position. You can also quickly and easily slide the brace off entirely and return to a mostly stock configuration, but it's also designed well enough that this will not ha...

Solid Brace

by Greg M, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on November 11, 2024
This is the way to go if you do not want to form 1 your MP5. Pros: The brace is solid and well built. By being collapsible it does not add any thickness to the gun that a side folder does. It has three positions settings and a QD mount for a sling. It did fit my Military Armament Mac-5 clone, which I was a little concerned about when first ordering. It looks good and it's as close to a stock as you can get if you do not want to form 1 the gun. Cons: It does add weight to the gun because it is sold metal not flimsy polymer. It's a bit pricey. It took a little effort to install because the fit was tight. Be sure and blackout the 3 set screws on the bottom of the brace before installing. The 3 set screws add support but they do have to be backed out in order to strip the gun for cleaning. Overall I am very pleased with it and would purchase it again. I am glad it fit my Mac-5 clone. I would rate it 4.5 stars if I could with 1/2 star deduction based on the price alone , not form or function. Also - Dirty J Designs makes a plug for the brace, which gives it more of a stock look for an additional $20.

H&K Sp5 brace

by S.R., from WI, United States Written on June 13, 2021
Fit and finish is really good. Well built. Would have given 5 stars but had to do minor modification to the plastic buffer in the SB brace for it to fit. Only took 2 minutes. Great product. Yes I would recommend this product!
Pros:
  • Well built & durable
Cons:
  • Needed minor modification for clearance

SB Arm Brace for HK SP5

by Sierra Romeo, from MI, United States Written on January 1, 2021
Good quality finish. Tight specifications. Product was exactly as expected. Optics Planet was a little slow shipping without much notification of shipping information but then again shipping was slow due to covid restrictions.

SP5 Brace Application

by PaulD, from WA, United States Written on September 8, 2020
The brace is very well built, and once installed is a perfect fit for my SP5. It may be a little short on extension for some, but I found it to be comfortable and emencly improves my fire control. The reason for four stars instead of five is because the nylon slide inside the receiver coupling conflicts with a steel tab in the SP5 making it impossible to connect the two together until you realize you need to cut a small part of the nylon slide off in order to make it fit. Since the nylon fixture controls the slide extension, you have to be careful not to cut too much off. Nothing in the direction sheet advises you of this problem, but once done, the system works very well and functions like it was part of the original SP5 system.
Pros:
  • Well built;tight fit; smooth action
Cons:
  • Nylon fixture doesn't allow the brace to fit onto the gun without modification. The extended brace is a little short
Best Used for:
  • improving fire control

Works great, needed a minor modification

by Bradj, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on March 23, 2020
The install process wasn’t too difficult, however there is a rubber buffer in the brace and a bolt that had to be shaved down with a dremel. Once that was done the brace installed with no issues. I’ve read this somewhere else with the same issue. For reference I installed on an HK SP5.

Works well, but not a direct fit for the new SP5

by Bradj, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on December 27, 2019
I had to grind down the plastic buffer and an Allen head bolt inside the brace to get it to mount onto the SP5. Other than that, it installed easily and works well. I can’t comment on how well this fits into the original MP5
