Good quality cheap replacement

by ThatGuy, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on January 3, 2020
I bought this magazine catch as it was cheapest version I could find. I wanted to use it to replace a supposedly higher-quality Lone Wolf Distributors Extended Magazine Catch, which I detested - it was poking at my hand making even gripping the pistol uncomfortable. I expected to mod this component with a Dremel to my liking, but to be honest I was pretty satisfied with the part as-is.

It sticks out enough to be perfectly accessible, without poking your hand like the LWD part I was replacing. It also fits the lines of the Polymer 80 frame a lot better than the other part, making it look less out of place. It doesn't have any branding, which I prefer for a part like this. And the price was the cheapest around, making it perfect for an affordable replacement or to keep as a spare part. Once installed, it's unremarkable in the good sense, as in it feels like it should and is not distracting you in any way when you actuate it.

The only negative is that on one corner there was a defect from the mold not getting 100% filled during manufacturing. Not a big deal, and only noticeable if you look at it up close, but it keeps the part from being 100% perfect.

All in all I'm glad with the part, and I ordered another as a spare. I can't think of any reason not to go for this part if you needed.
Pros:
  • good quality
  • Affordable
  • well designed
Cons:
  • The mold could be higher quality
Best Used for:
  • spare parts
  • Anyone needing a replacement part

Cheapest Option

Rough Casting around the button. Sharp.. Smoothed with 100 grit, then 0000 steel wool + oil.
The spring notch in the button is also farther right than others, leading to a noticeably high preload tension. Feature or discrepancy?
Pros:
  • Cheap
Cons:
  • sharp edges
  • unfinished edges
  • Stiff spring mechanism
Best Used for:
  • Budget builds
  • Customizing
