Expert Review

Love the Reticle

by Matt S., Gear Expert from IL, United States Written on June 15, 2017
Never had much experience with Shepherd scopes but after using this I wasn't disappointed.

For a 1-6x riflescope this thing gives the Razor Gen II a run for its money. The 1-6x Phantom is lighter than most 1-6x on the market.

The FFP reticle is awesome. At 1x it is quick to acquire but doesn't get in the way. Dial it up to 6x and it becomes easy to ring steel out to distance with a reticle actually designed for ballistic drop, not just "close enough".

T1 reticle is designed to work well with almost all rifle calibers, from .223-.338LM, with muzzle velocities from 2,800 feet per second to 3,300 feet per second.

T2 reticle is fine tuned around rifle calibers with muzzle velocities in the 2600-2900 range (5.56 NATO, 7.62 NATO, .223, .308, etc)

Really well built, looks like it could take a beating if it had to and the turrets were pretty crisp although I barely touched them after zeroing thanks to the reticle.

Illumination was a rheostat opposite of the windage turret. Worked as expected but after spending more and more time with smart electronics you start to appreciate them at this price point. Until they fail I guess.

A year or so ago this scope would be very well known, but the 1-6x craze is quickly giving way to 1-8x.

But if you actually put in time on the range, you know quality class and a well built design outweigh additional magnification.

Excited to see what else Shepherd has in store.
