This scope out performs the Strike Eagle and Primary Arms stuff under a grand by a vast margin. Plus.......it actually is daylight bright. The reticle is readable even with my trash eyes. If you’re looking for a throw lever either the lone star precision for $30 or Vortex Strike Eagle work perfectly.

The scope is the same as the primary arms 1-8, vortex strike eagle 1-8. Just different features. Glass is decent overall. No it's not ED OR HD glass which reduces chromatic aberration at high magnification. It's just glass that's fully multi coated. The optic is manufactured in China. The scope loses clarity at 8x magnification and has noticeable chromatic aberration at 8x. You'll notice lose of clarity as well as a bluish, greenish, grayish tint when looking at like trees from a distant. The average shooter won't notice. But when you've bought Japanese or German made optics with premium lenses. It's hard to go back to cheaper glass because it's not the same. Overall great scope and glass for an eye that hasn't seen HD glass before. If they had stopped this scope at 6x or used extra low dispersion glass it'd be amazing. You don't notice the flaws of cheap glass until you start going higher magnifications.
Pros:
- Versatile
- Reticle Design
- Tactile clicks
Cons:
- Tight eyebox at 8x
- reduced glass clarity at 8x
- No off in between illumination
Best Used for:
- Plinking, competition, self defense
- not really great at 8x lose of clarity and did the scope snobs.. noticeable chromatic aberration at high magnification

This is an update to my first post. The correct throw lever is a vortex strike eagle 1-6 throw lever by lone Star precision. The scope however is still awesome. Unless it falls apart when I go shooting with. But I've purchased two of these Scopes

This scope from the unboxing seems awesome. Reticle is day light bright in both red or green. Turrets are tactical and precise. Flip caps provided appear good qaulity. If you are considering this scope just get it. It is better than a primary arms 1-8 or the vortex strike eagle 1-8. Glass is clear. Scope appears good qaulity. If you want a throw lever. The vortex strike eagle 1-6 throw lever fit perfectly. 1-8 magnification is perfect for the MSR style rifles. You could easily shoot this out to 1k yards or more using your scope reticle holdovers. Why spend $1200 plus on a night force 1-8 or trijicon 1-8.... Does this have night force glass?? Of course not... But there comes a point with rifle scope glass where you get to a point of diminishing returns.
Pros:
- 1-8 magnification
- Clear glass & Reticle
- locking turret
Best Used for:
- The most versatile scope you can buy in my opinion.

The clarity is HD striking. I own a 1000 dollar Leupold and during daytime shooting, i haven't tried dusk or dawn as of yet, but it's just as clear if not clearer in detail even at maximum magnification. It's a bit hefty but im hoping its quality built in for the long run. I even like running this scope without the illumination, it's just so crisp once the diopter is adjusted. If you buy this scope, you will not be disappointed!!!

With All the good reviews I am sure it’s just mine but I could not get it to focus in the background properly. I have over 40 scopes weapons so I know how to adjust reticle/parallax. I also have two other brand 1-8’s and have no problems. The background would only come into good Focus around the power setting at 4 1/2. Anything before that or after that would start to go out of focus. I have never had that issue with a scope before. My son-in-law who has perfect vision could not get it to work either. Tried to give it to him for free and he did not want it. So I am sending it back to the dealer in Florida. I have had this for over 30 days being it was a Christmas present and too late to send it back to Optics planet.
Pros:
- Seems well built. Sturdy.
Cons:
- Background would not focus properly. Dealer says parallax is set at 100 yards. This would not be a good weapon for less than 100 yard hunting or close quarter weapons obviously.
Best Used for:
- Nothing yet. Will have to see if replacement works.

I threw my Strikefired in the trash. Enough said. Oh and the fact that this review must be 200 charecters long, I would also like to state my strikefired was like looking at your target thru a marble - not this one.
Pros:
- Turrets easy to adjust, No problems with eye relief
Best Used for:
- 0-100 yards and more if you wish

What more can I say about this product? It is absolutely incredible for the money! For less than 500 dollars after discounts you have a extremely solid built scope with incredibly clear glass, an awesome reticle, dual color illumination that's daytime bright, locking turrets with tactile and audible clicks, and one of my favorite things about it is its very clean no gaudy logos all over it. I highly recommend this product to anyone looking to get great variable optic for a good price!
Pros:
- Price
- Solid build
- great reticle
- incredible glass
- Solid turrets

I first heard about Shepard scopes when I I saw a video titled “The best scope you’ve never heard of”. Those I was skeptical I did some more research& considering n sale this competes price point wise with the strike Eagle 1-8x I figured worst case I’ll have a solid scope and best case it will be as advertised. After I put it sir by side with my Trijicon Accupower 1-4x that retails for more and the glass is as clear if not clearer on the shepherd. As the numbers on the reticle for the reticle are almost impossible to see on the Accupower on an overcast day which isn’t the case which this rugged as they are easily visible in same lighting conditions. It’s has Mil reticle and Mil turrets that are audible and crisp. Illumination has 5settings of red & 5 of green. It’s safe to say that this will hold its own with scope that cost 2x as Much. Truly as others have said, it’s holds its own with 1000’s price point and can be pick up just more than a strike Eagle to get HD glass that competes with the razor HD If your on the fence don’t be, as your getting HD glass, for strike Eagle prices, and this 1-8? 18oz, when the accupower 1-4x is 17oz..
If I had to pick something I’d change is that I have not been able to locate a extended quick throw lever for it yet, but I’m sure a universal ones out there somewhere. Does that really bother me so much I’m willing to spend 600+ more for one of the OEM scopes they make they put in a different body, that’s branded buy someone else with identic...

If you are anything like me then you have mountains of accessories for all of your toys. I did not “need” another 1-6 or 1-8 power scope, but I am fimilar with Shepard’s quality from my Varmit hunting days, so I wanted to see how they evolved since my last shepherd scope purchase 25 years ago. I ordered one more the day after I received the first one. Half the price of the tango 6, but at least as good. The optics are clear. Dusk light gathering is considerable greater than your naked eye ( pretty normal on high end scopes), no parallax, green or red lite reticle, etc... and Shepherd is/was a great company for customer service. I say “was” because I haven’t dealt with them in a quarter century, but when I did, both father and son Shepherd personally addressed my problem to the point where I actually sent them the firearm to resolve my issue which turned out to be the chamber of the weapon and NOT the scope. But for a company to go through all of that hassle for a customer and the clear continued commitment to quality I see in today’s products... this thing is a steal at twice the price. The only tiny thing, if you even use it, is that it doesn’t have one of those long detachable zoom levers, so you can’t zoom from one power up super quickly, just quickly. I’m sure you could find one that fits aftermarket, but that was the only thing I miss and many people do not use that anyway, as it could get caught on something. Of course, that has nothing to do with the quality of the opt...
