Bryan's Review of SIG SAUER Sierra6BDX 2-12x40mm Rifle Scope, 30mm Tube, Digital Second Focal Plane w/Kilo1600BDX 6x22mm Rangefinder

There are alot of things to like about this package and a few things I don't care for. First, the range finder is amazing and the absolute best bang for your buck as far as range finders go. Its pretty easy to use and along with the app for your phone it can do alot more than probably most shooters. Linking / Bonding these is not too difficult but takes a bit of using to fully understand what your doing. Just poking buttons isn't going to get you where your trying to go. Play with it. You'll get it. I like how fast that the range finder sends info to the scope for me to make my shot. It almost feels like cheating because its so easy and reliable when it comes to putting your bullet on target at anything up to but NOT past 800 yards.

I dont want to say "What I dont like". I'll say, "what I would like to see different is, I want the ability to go past 800 yards. Or be limited by bullet energy. Since i hunt with a 338 Lapua, I have more than enough to go past 800 yards. Another thing to consider is that Im NOT always hunting. Most of the time im banging on steel at my local gun range. 800 yards gets me to about 75% of my available targets. The AB/Sig app is great but its like putting a throttle limiter limiting you to 65 mph on a corvette. Yes, I can buy a Kestrel but that's just one more "thing" i have to bring, drop, break, loose, worry about and have spare batteries for. As for now, I use the rangefinder along with my Strelok Pro app on my phone to go out past 800 BUT not with this scope as it has covered turrets and its not really designed for that.

I don't really care for the feel of the clicks when turning the turrets BUT, it's a hunting rig and the caps should stay on after sighting in. they just have a "cheap" feel to them that do not inspire confidence when turning them. Something else that screams "Hunting Scope" are the heavy crosshairs. At 100 yds i cover up a 1" inch peel & Stick bullseye on my target with these crosshairs. The illuminated dot is Very small which is a huge plus as it does not cover up a game sized target.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with this package. Im hoping the scope holds up on my Christensen Arms 338 Lapua with a carbon fiber wrapped barrel. The warranty makes me alittle nervous but i guess time will tell, and hopefully i will not have to test out the warranty.

So I guess the question is, When will we see something with longer range usefulness NOT only for hunting? Will a better retical be offered?
Pros:
  • Easy to use & operate
Cons:
  • limited range
Best Used for:
  • hunting
Would Recommend: Yes
