I bought a Star Adventurer Skywatcher without this base. I realised that is very necessary to allign the Star Adventurer and to move it through declination.
It comes with 2 bolts to align it to the north/south pole (a few degrees). For declination there is a bolt for fine tuning and a lever to fix it.

Works as designed
This is the perfect companion for the Sky Watcher Star Adventurer. The tripod head that I was using got in the way of the counterweight bar. This has no obstructions on the front. The alt-az adjustments work fine for a small mount and work perfectly for polar alignment.
Pros:
- No front obstructions
- Facilitates polar alignment
- Carries small to medium load
- Easy alt-az adjustments
Cons:
- Alt lock is flimsy
