Not a big deal

by Ciber, Verified Owner from SC, United States Written on February 28, 2024
I purchased these because of the extra two decibels. I can’t tell if the extra dbs make any difference. I do notice that there is a lot of echoing while at an inside range. I end up shutting them off unless I need to talk to someone. For me this was really a waste. While I am shooting the with the power on I do not have any complaint except for the echoing of the gun shot. Not good for me.

Most uncomfortable muffs I have ever tried

by Tom, Verified Owner from GA, United States Written on February 12, 2024
I bought these for my wife. Both of us have heads that are likely larger than "average". The earpieces do not extend far down enough to avoid significant discomfort from the band on the top of our heads. They also fit overly tight on the sides. I have easily used over a dozen different muffs in my 50+ years and these were by far the worst. Note she was also concerned about the cords tangling in her hair. Neither of us could even come close to mounting a long gun with a proper cheek weld without pushing them up and away from the ear. I have a pair of Peltor low profile passive muffs that are much more comfortable and the stock does not interfere with the cups as much (still some). I never bothered trying the electronics as I was going to return them. Surprise, Optics Planet will not take them back (PPE). To be fair I missed the notation of such on their website, so it is not their fault. Note I have a pair of Axil in-ear electronic plugs and I like those, so I am not knocking Axil - just these muffs.
Pros:
  • cost
Cons:
  • Uncomfortable and useless with long guns
Best Used for:
  • Small heads and handguns

Effective protection and function. Easy retraction for compact storage. Head clamp.

by lamesaman, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on February 6, 2024
I like the way these fold up within the head band for a compact shape for small storage in my range bag. My first test run at the range found them working as expected. Fit well over my eye protection with no noticeable fit trouble at point of contact with eyeglass temple piece.

These fit tight and after about 20 minutes of continuous use, I really felt the pressure on my noggin around my ears. I imagine they would feel really uncomfortable after all day use if that's your gig.
Pros:
  • compact form for storage
Cons:
  • really tight fit for long term use (head clamp)
Best Used for:
  • short term at the range

Excellent Electronic Earmuffs with NRR = 25 dB; No Instructions; Fragile Battery Cover

by Matthew Cosgrove, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on May 19, 2022
I really wanted to give the AXIL Trackr Electronic Earmuffs a rating of 4.5 Stars but since that isn't an option, I had to scale down. First, a couple minor issues with the Earmuffs - there were no instructions that came in the box (but not too hard to figure out) and second, the Battery Compartment Cover is very sheer and I was worried about damaging the cover after installing the batteries. Now the Pros; the Earmuffs are fairly comfortable and I put them on with and without my Eye Protection and wore them for a couple hours - I knew I had them on but not too uncomfortable. They are a bit snug but that is required for the 25 dB NRR Rating. I haven't been to the range yet but ran some preliminary tests at home. When I put the Volume up high, everything is amplified including AC Exhaust, dryer, fans, dog walking across flooring, etc. Most of the time I left the Volume at a normal level so it was similar to the volume you would hear without headphones on. The next test I did was to slap the side of my leg and the volume was definitely muffled. I then went into the garage, picked up a cooler to about 3 feet, and dropped it with and without the Earmuffs on and what a difference; when I had the Earmuffs on, I could hear the impact but very subdued. What I'm most concerned about however is the sound when I'm at the indoor range with my 10mm handgun. The issue is that the gun produces somewhere around 163 db of sound using heavy/high velocity ammunition. Given the 25 dB N...
