jayceeCA2A's Review of Steiner DRS 1x Defendu Reflex Sight

I'm surprised that there's only a few people have actually reviewed it and this sight isnt exactly new. Its been on the market for at least a year and half if not two. A previous version had buttons on the side while this new one has the buttons on the top.  My choices narrowed down to either the LCO or this DRSX1 and I chose the DRSx1. The sight is simple no frills in my opinion when compared to some others in the market. Though i would have liked to have auto on instead of the auto off this sight has.

The fov is great very wide.and uses 2 AA batteries but will run on only one, not sure why they designed it that way but i onky have one battery in it, granted run time is reduced with only one battery.  The sight is very well made and its made in the USA.  The design is very low key and iant market up with branding an logo like most others. You wiuld have to look real hard to find the very subdued Steiner printed on the sight.  But for the premium price of $650 -$700 it is not that good of a deal. At that price it should have some of the more advanced technology such as auto motion on, it has the off but that's pretty standard.  No covers for the lens, no micro fiber lens cleaning cloth, comes in card board box instead of a plastic storage case. But those are not deal breakers because they are not necessities  the sight basically doesnt come with anything you dont need but comes with 2 Energizers that you do need.

I usuallly use it at in door range in the aecond to lowest setting. I havent had a chance to use it out doors. The red dot with stadia lines in the brighter settings are so bright it bleeds out and causes a bit of distortion for my astigmatism.  The dimmer settings are great for my astigmatised eyes. The dot is crisp and no comet trails. Thats not to say your astigma will experience the same as everyones astigmatism will be different to some degree.   Another issue is, when i was inspecting it before mounting it, you can detect the relection/shadow of the module that holds the led source in the brighter modes. That was a big turn off because it made this optics feel like it was one of those made in China replicas. The replica optics I have are like that. You can see the shadows of its internals.  But when I am actually shooting at a target after it was mounted, I didnt notice it at all so it really isnt a big deal. But this is one of the most expensive rds on the market and we shouldn't be able to see anything except the dot itself when looking thru the optics. Thats also just me being nitpicky.  I can't say if other premium optics also shows shadows of the internals as I've no experience with other premiums.

One big concern is the manual. It kinda confused me a bit. I'm still relatively new to using optics and marksmanship, but the manual says the dot is rated 2 moa @ 25 meters.  then it goes to explain the other reticle are rated at 7 yards 25 and 50 yards.  Yards and meter thou are similar but still has a difference of about 3 inches. Did they mean to use two different tyoes of measurements?  They flipflop yards and meters that im not sure which unit of measure is the used for baseline.  Me being the beginner that I am very confused by that...   This kind of error shiould not happen for a premium company. Though i know that might be asking a lot.  Hope they can correct it for their furure print.  I gave it 5 stars but really wanted to give 4.5 stars but no half ratings can be made
