jay's Review of Steiner OTAL-C IR Class I Classic Tactical Laser
Appears to be well made. The zero knobs seem to offer positive beam pointing adjustments, though I don't know how susceptible they are to being inadvertently knocked about. It hasn't yet been subjected to significant shock nor rain. I haven't tried to determine accurately the angular adjustment for each "click", though my initial impression is that it's about 2 MOA. (There is no manual for this item that I could find.) It has a VERY tight fit to a Picatinny rail, so probably beware of putting this on a polymer rail. The beam is very bright. I haven't tried it beyond 100 yds, but it has no problem going that far. But it's so bright that it may be a problem to use in close quarters. There is a halo around the central tight beam that to some degree obscures the target, though this may make it easier to locate the beam rapidly. It would be MUCH better if there were two power settings on this laser (or a built-in filter). It is not quite so "low profile" as I would like. The main body of the structure (the flat part of the box) sits 1.2" above the rail. This could be a problem for some set ups - including mine. The elevation knob adds another 0.2" to that, though it sits slightly to one side of center, thus interfering with only one side of your field of view. This 0.6" offset of the laser from the rail centerline, presumably the "O" in OTAL, may be an issue for someone dealing with small varmits at very close range, though is of no consequence for larger targets at longer range. The body is large enough that I don't think this would be compatible with the short rail on the underside of a pistol.
Pros:
- bright
Cons:
- needs lower power setting
Would Recommend:
Yes
