Most Helpful Positive Review Best choice for budget NV setup
This laser is a great budget choice for someone who wants to get into night vision shooting but doesn’t want to spend the $800-$1500 for the “better” IR Lasers. No, it does not have an IR illuminator, only the laser, but the bloom coming off of the laser within 100y makes it act like a small illuminator as well as a pointer. Using this for CQB is interesting as well. The laser blooms off of white walls and lights up the room pretty decently. Again, not as good as something like a DBAL I2 with the laser/illuminator combo, but, it works great for its capabilities and way better than I expected. ...

Small But Mighty

by John Smythe, from OR, United States Written on September 20, 2022
This thing is TINY. It's not the hand-sized, mILiTaRy SpEc, piece of gear you'd expect if you used Steiner gear in Group. It's the size of 2 fingers. And that's FINE. It has no green or red laser, so you need to use your NV to sight it in. It's not hard. Once it's dialed in, it does everything that units 2-3x the cost are designed to do--put rounds on target in the dark with a PVS. I'm ordering one for every rifle I own.
Pros:
  • Lightweight, bright beam in NVGs
Cons:
  • no visible laser
Best Used for:
  • Hunting, security, law enforcement applications

Steiner OTAL-C

by FltDoc, from TX, United States Written on February 24, 2021
Excellent product, durable, and simple, easy to use. As a 'civilian version' it's probably about as good as what we used in the military. I'm impressed with the device and would recommend it without hesitating.

Otal c ir laser

by Preston Sharp, from IN, United States Written on December 26, 2018
Using pvs14 gen 3. Dot is nice and green slight halo but am still able to ring 12" steel at 200 in the night. The laser needs a momentary light button on the unit as well be able to use a pressure pad. The dbal does. I mounted the pad on the left side looking from the back. Good starting laser.
Pros:
  • USA made, quality, easy to use.
Cons:
  • No on unit momentary switch. Little halo sometimes.
Best Used for:
  • Professional entry level use
Would recommend: Yes

Lightweight IR Laser

by MIke, from TX, United States Written on February 17, 2018
Looking for a reliable, lightweight laser to use for pig hunting. Seems very well made, and easy to see aim point out to 150 yards (using a PVS-14) at night. Probably will illuminate targets further. Comes complete with pressure pad, or can be set to be constant on. Small unit, about the size of a pack of gum. Highly recommended, well worth the cost.
Pros:
  • rugged
  • Good power output
  • AA battery power
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Pig Hunting
Would recommend: Yes

Good laser for a reasonable cost

I purchaed this laser for my AR for night shoots. It has a very sturdy build, nice quick release mount and solid windage/elevation knobs. Very easy to sight in. I would defiantly recommend this for anyone interested in night shooting with NVGs.
Pros:
  • Good price, solid build.
Cons:
  • None

very bright (too?), not so low profile

by jay, from AL, United States Written on October 3, 2017
Appears to be well made. The zero knobs seem to offer positive beam pointing adjustments, though I don't know how susceptible they are to being inadvertently knocked about. It hasn't yet been subjected to significant shock nor rain. I haven't tried to determine accurately the angular adjustment for each "click", though my initial impression is that it's about 2 MOA. (There is no manual for this item that I could find.) It has a VERY tight fit to a Picatinny rail, so probably beware of putting this on a polymer rail. The beam is very bright. I haven't tried it beyond 100 yds, but it has no problem going that far. But it's so bright that it may be a problem to use in close quarters. There is a halo around the central tight beam that to some degree obscures the target, though this may make it easier to locate the beam rapidly. It would be MUCH better if there were two power settings on this laser (or a built-in filter). It is not quite so "low profile" as I would like. The main body of the structure (the flat part of the box) sits 1.2" above the rail. This could be a problem for some set ups - including mine. The elevation knob adds another 0.2" to that, though it sits slightly to one side of center, thus interfering with only one side of your field of view. This 0.6" offset of the laser from the rail centerline, presumably the "O" in OTAL, may be an issue for someone dealing with small varmits at very close range, though is of no consequence for larger targets at...

Laser works perfect and works great

by MIGuard2014, Verified Owner from MI, United States Written on July 9, 2017
I've used this laser many times since purchase and had no issues. Dials click while adjusting and don't lose zero. Tape switch did start shorting out after being zip tied and heated up strenuously from repetitious shooting. Offset is perfect and the laser gs been dropped but still works! Not cheap but better than some alternatives and is compatible with streamlight switches!
Pros:
  • Easy to use and zero
  • Works great in low light
  • sits offset for use with iron sights
Cons:
  • Tapeswitch shorted out
Best Used for:
  • hunting
  • night time shooting
Would recommend: Yes

Affordable hunting laser

by Jon, from AZ, United States Written on June 17, 2017
This is an affordable alternate to many other Steiner lasers on the market. I wanted something that was both affordable and made by a trusted company. It holds zero and is fairly simple to use: Off, momentary pressure switch, and constant ON. Zeroing can be a bit of a pain as it does not have a slaved visible laser, but once you've got it zeroed you're good to go. It is fairly bright and it is very slim and compact. This is a great laser for entry level night vision.
Pros:
  • rugged
  • Affordable
  • Small
  • AA Batteries
Cons:
  • no visible laser
  • momentary pressure switch
  • zeroing
Best Used for:
  • night vision hunts
