Another Great Closed Emitter Optic

by Matt S., Gear Expert from IL, United States Written on February 17, 2022
Really great to see Steiner taking the pistol mounted red dot category seriously.

Closed emitter optics offer a little extra protection from the elements which is nice to have whether you carry concealed or on duty.

I had a slide set up for the ACRO but getting my hands on one was easier said than done so when I saw the MPS uses the same footprint, I was interested. When I saw Aaron Cowan's evaluation of the optic, I was ready to purchase it and OpticsPlanet had it in stock.

So far I like it. Very comparable to the 509T but slight differences. The MPS is overbuilt which is good for protection but the housing thickness is noticeably different to me from the 509T when looking through the window. The buttons on the MPS are solid when using individually but trying to press them simultaneously to lock in the brightness setting can be a bit of a challenge.

Glass clarity and dot brightness are wonderful. Once you start shooting, all the minor differences between the MPS and other enclosed emitter optics fade away.

It is a bit strange that they didn't include a shake awake feature since the optic has a timed shut off feature but its not a deal breaker.

Given the better price and availability of the MPS compared to the ACRO, I would definitely recommend it as a solid alternative to anyone interested in or waiting for an ACRO.

This is a solid product for Steiner that adds value to the closed emitter optic market.
Most Helpful Positive Review rock solid
Hands down better the the acro p2 better glass and ergonomics and looks way better the p2 might have a little advantage on toughness but you cant ever find 1 so ther worthless buy one of these you love it
Most Helpful Negative Review Immediate warranty claim: debris in unit damaged glass.
I run an SRO on my CO and competition CZ's. Great dots, but not "real world" durable. Wanted a durable, enclosed emitter optic with a high IPX rating to use in run-n-gun type races (sort of a 2 gun biathlon with obstacles, water crossings, mud etc) and figured I couldn't go wrong with a Steiner, e...

GARBAGE RDS….or should I say POS!

by J.R., Verified Owner from MS, United States Written on April 25, 2026
Recommend it? HEWL NAWL! I bought this only because I couldn’t find an Acro P2 and I couldn’t be more disappointed. What a GARBAGE optic and the fact that Steiner considers this a duty rated optic is absolutely laughable. I mounted this piece of junk to my Staccato HD P4.5, zeroed it, and ran it through some drills that we regularly perform during SWAT training. The result? A screw INSIDE the optic came completely loose and was rattling around the inside of the optic. It completely scratched up the interior portion of both the back and front lens. Now, I have to wait 5-6 WEEKS for Steiner to send a replacement! WTF…..5-6 WEEKS! What a POS! If Optics Planet allowed me to post pictures to substantiate this post, I’d be happy to do so. DO NOT buy this garbage Acro wanna-be! Buy an Acro C2 instead, especially if you need it for duty use like I do.
Pros:
  • cost
Cons:
  • Unreliable
  • poor quality
Best Used for:
  • nothing

Better than the Acro for less

by Veritas, Verified Owner from OK, United States Written on April 8, 2026
This MPS has clearer glass and a sharper red dot then the Aimpoint Acro which costs 40% more. (I own both). A lot of people don’t give much thought to it, but I love the way optics like this and the acro and the 509T attach more like a rifle optic on a Picatinny rail. If you have your slide milled for direct mount, you will have precisely zero tiny screws threading into your slide or a plate.

Excellent ACRO P2 alternative

by Jacob, Verified Owner from NM, United States Written on March 27, 2026
This optic is an excellent choice if you want to maintain reliability and function and save a bit of money over something like an acro p2 has all the same functions but at 200 dollars less and a slightly bigger window you will not be disappointed if you get it.
Pros:
  • Good price vs competition
  • Window size vs competition
  • Battery life just over 3 years
  • Same footprint as the acro
Cons:
  • Grey color of outside

Great for pairing with a magnified optic on a rifle

by Jnmc, Verified Owner from MD, United States Written on March 19, 2026
This thing is clear, with a crisp dot and very little parallax. You really have to look to see any parallax. This is a en extremely well built optic and I was excited to pick it up. At first I mounted it on an Echelon and it renders the iron sights all but unusable which isnt a bad thing if you don't like irons in your sight picture, I'm a 2 is one and 1 is none type when it comes to sights. I now have this as a piggyback optic on a rifle with a micro 5x prism optic.

  • General use pistol shooting

Better than I expected

by MANYO365, Verified Owner from AZ, United States Written on February 28, 2026
I wasn't expecting much from an enclosed optic but this one has surprised the h$ll out of me. I hear the battery life isn't great but I'm not using this for edc. I purchased it to go on a glock 49 mos7. I didn't realize an mos7 was a factory acro cut glock. The gun is being used for USPSA and gets the job done. The glass is clear. The dot gets more than bright enough and doesn't present a ghost dot or glare when shooting towards the sun.
