Goodbye TLR-4

by Matt S., Gear Expert from IL, United States Written on May 14, 2018
Acquired a TLR-4 a couple years ago, liked the light but finding a holster was tough and I never liked the light enough to justify having a holster made.

TLR8 is an excellent upgrade. More lumens in a compact package. Finding holsters is easier now too.

While I like the push buttons on the TLR8 more than the TLR6, i still like the paddles on the TLR1 or TLR4 better.

Also, getting a good fit with keys takes some trial/error as well as some fitting. The rear of the unit is a little thick so the light doesn't hug the trigger gaurd like previous models and the included keys all seem to be "picatinny" spec so weaverish/non-pic rails on some of my guns don't fit how I would like. Solved that by trimming edges on one of the keys.

I like that both adjusters for the lasers are on the side now and the lockout feature is excellent as well.

Overall a solid move by Streamlight and definitely a light that I will be carrying.
Most Helpful Positive Review Best laser/light product
This is absolutely the best laser/light product you can mount on your pistol. The light is so bright that it lights up the whole room. The laser is easy to see because it centers right in the middle of the light's projection. The laser is also very easy to adjust and keeps its zero very well. The si...

Most Helpful Negative Review Good, but not so much in a holster
First, I do like the light. I likes it's compactness. It's like it was made for Glock 19 or p229. It cuts off right at the barrel and just looks great. I've had no issues with the lights reliability from a click on click off perspective. The price is also not insane like Surefire products. The light...

Good light and laser but did not last long

by Allan A, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on June 6, 2023
The reason why I gave a 3 stars because it only last for 8 months. I like this light very bright and the laser.. But last week I the light just stops, totally not working. I don’t know if I have to change the battery to keep on working. But really disappointed. It’s fits my Glock 30sf perfectly. I was thinking if this light has a warranty or send me a new one. This light is expensive bought it for $200. If only they will send me a new light i really appreciated or repair it.

Very compact for Sig 226Mk25

by BobF, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on January 15, 2023
I purchased this for my Sig P226 MK25. It fits perfectly with the supplied adapter and was was almost spot on when installed. Only minor adjustment for to zero to 15 feet. The P226 is a heavy gun and this light makes it even heavier, which doesn't fit for EDC, but perfect for home defense as the extra weight really tames recoil. The light is super bright with a spot concentrated in the center and still it provide considerable wide illumination. Controls are simple and readily activated. Optional light only, dot only, light+dot, strobe effect.I have put a couple hundred rounds through the gun with this light and it holds zero. Highly recommended.
Pros:
  • Easy to activate
  • Very bright able to get my pistol on target quickly.
  • easy to install, exactly as advertised
  • doesn't stick out beyond muzzle.
Cons:
  • None for me
Best Used for:
  • Home defense & range

Get a TLR7 instead

by Sean, from VA, United States Written on June 27, 2022
Went to zero the laser, the tool is too small to actually adjust anything but big enough to strip the adjustment dials. Advice for Streamlight, make the components of the actual product that interface with the 50 cent tool stronger than the tool, so it gets stripped, not the $200 product, absolutely pathetic. Just get yourself the TLR7 or don't use their tool to "make adjustments" Now I have to return this thing....
Pros:
  • seems well built
Cons:
  • cheap tool breaks relatively expensive product

Good light/laser, easy set up

by Reddog, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on May 12, 2022
It is the 2nd light/laser tlr 8 I have bought for home defense. 500 lumen is very bright in house. More is almost to bright in the house. Reflected light can be a problem when you been asleep. I like that you can change battery without dismounting and re mounting.
Pros:
  • Easy set up and battery change
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Home Defense

The compatibility chart should spec that 1913-2 key is used with the FN509C, not the 1913-1.

by Blake, from IL, United States Written on February 15, 2022
Overall very good construction and super bright light. Bore sight is on its way with a Holosun 507C. As I said the 1913-2 key, not the 1913-1 for an FN509C. Also could not get clamp on rail with the c-clip installed. Seems like guns rails are on the upper end of the tolerance.
Pros:
  • Super Bright
  • Easy to dial in.
Cons:
  • Instructions not correct
Best Used for:
  • Night time protection

super compact laser light

by Darlon Sinclair, Verified Owner from MT, United States Written on January 30, 2022
This compact light and laser fits my sig p226 very well. The features of this laser light are superior to others on the market. It projects a strong beam that can lit up room (no joke) I wish OpticsPlanet could allow buyers to to upload photos/videos, I’d show you exactly what I’m talking about.
Pros:
  • Strong laser that is visible in daylight
  • great quality
Cons:
  • non yet

Laser doesn't hold a zero

by Jeff, from ID, United States Written on January 30, 2022
Installed it using correct key for my pistol rail, difficult to install but ultimately got the job done. Flashlight is bright and works well. Zeroed my laser, holstered it in a holster I had custom made for this setup, and upon drawing the laser was off by 6 inches high and 4 inches to the right. I zeroed it again and produced the same results. Contacted customer service multiple times with not getting through and leaving voicemail. Was called back finally by upper management who assigned me a customer service rep. Was told to call them. Called them, left a voicemail, and haven't received a call back. Because I threw away my receipt, I'm not able to fill out their form for requesting factory repair, and they only repair the tlr series at factory with receipt required. $230 on a junk product, with another $130 on a custom holster for this that doesn't work. Save your money and get an optic instead.
Pros:
  • Flashlight works great
Cons:
  • Laser doesn't hold a zero
  • 1.5 hour long battery
  • Overpriced for a flashlight with low battery life
  • You have to assemble their rail mount
  • Assembling the rail mount retainer spring was a half hour chore
  • You have to buy a custom holster for this junk
Best Used for:
  • As a target for target practice

The laser and light options work perfect

by Buf, from IN, United States Written on January 30, 2022
The laser/light is reasonably priced, works great and fits properly to my Glock 19 pistol. The flashlight is very bright and the on off switch is in a convenient location. The only issue I’ve had is finding a holster that fits comfortably but still drawl smooth
Pros:
  • Quick on and off, easy to use and very bright
Cons:
  • Finding the right holster, but this is an issue with all laser light combos

Stripped Laser Adjustment Screws

by Robert, Verified Owner from CO, United States Written on December 13, 2021
Ordered and received 2, and on both, the left and right adjustment screw stripped at the first adjustment to get initially zeroed, and can not adjust any more so not zeroed . Initiated a RMA for credit, now looking for a something better to replace. Liked the compact size, fit my XD no problem. Vertical adjustment was fine.
Pros:
  • compact
Cons:
  • Stripped Adjustment
