Most Helpful Positive Review
Does what it's supposed to
This does a great job of diffusing the light into a soft red glow. This is great for doing things at night while keeping a low profile or without losing your night vision.

surefire f05
If you need a red lense for hunting reasons this is not what you want. There is a huge diffense between a filter and a lense. This blocks just about all light. Would be good for reading a map at night. Thats about it.
Pros: good quality
Cons: to thick a filter
red filter
Does what its supposed to do.
* if you have your light mounted far forward it will pop the red filter cap open after one or two shots.*

Good product
If you do any night hunting, you need a red light to see your way since coyotes can see white lights. This is the perfect answer.

Fits Streamlight #88082 - ProTac 2L-X USB
I bought my daughter the ProTac 2L-X USB (500 lumens) for Christmas to add to her Amry gear (recent OCS graduate). According to specs, the 2L-X USB model has a 1.06" (26.9mm) head diameter. The 1" SureFire red lens cap fits perfectly.

red filter
A red filter can be useful in some situations and this one flips on-off with a hinge, so that you can use the white light easily.
However, 2 big limitations: One, you may not be able to holster you pistol with it on, and it may pull off when you draw. TWo, if used on a carbine, be aware that if it isn't fully attached to the light (it is pressure fit and uses essentially ranger band rubber), it WILL pop off after firing a several dozen rounds--be sure you put it on the light all the way.

Nice Filter. Do not think you are going to hunt with this.
This filter is meant to get yourself in and out of your tree stand without spooking game.
I took this filter Elk hunting in Idaho in Sept. 2009. It was adequate to get around the mountain at night and not kill yourself, but you are not going to shine the hillside to look for eyes or see more than about 20 ft in front of you.
It fits tight on the surefire and bounced around for a week without coming off.
Pros: Saves night vision. Nice to find your way at night.
Cons: Can see far distances.
