Not the item pictured
This is not the item you will receive from opticsplanet and it will not fit some mossberg 500s. The item pictured is not what you receive and you will have to have some smithing work done on some mossberg models or the forend will bind and not pump making the entire gun useless in a defense scenario...

fitment on Mossberg 500
Fit the 12 gauge perfectly BUT my wife's 20 gauge had to do a bit of plastic work with a bit burr. They both work great BUT negative did not come with frond wrench. Tractor suppliy also sells one extremely similar just a wee bit larger with a different battery ND a frond wrench for 49.95 also 800 bright.

NOT Cheap, but well woth it.
I received the exact light pictured. Surefire is expensive, but also the very best. Used by military and LE around the world. It will withstand a lifetime of anything the user encounters. Fit and finish was excellent. Surefire provides the tool to remove the old forend and install this one. For the Mossberg line, all you need to supply is a small punch. Was a 5 min job to put it on my 590 Shockwave. It is a flamethrower of pure white light. Not sure about battery life (still on the original set) , especially a 600L output, but if you can afford a 350.00 light, its a safe bet you can afford a few batteries. Adds some weight and a little bulk, but its not a bad thing on the little Shockwave shooting buck/slugs.

light up the boom stick
I wanted to get a light for my Mossberg and not something that would be an additional attachment. This fits like a glove and does not take away from chambering a round. The button for a momentary on is a bit tricky to turn on, but the permanent on is pretty nice. Can't speak about battery life, but the batteries are good if you get the Streamlight ones. I have them in another tactical light and they have lasted for several years. It does have a nice look to it and a good feel.

DSF 500/590
I bought this for my mossberg 590 and it did not work out. The 590 has a barrel shroud that interferes with the fore-end light. In fact the barrel will not even go back on with fore-end light on it. It will work if you remove the barrel shroud, but I like having mine on. It also feels a little awkward due to the change of the grip. Thankfully Optics Planet allowed me to return it hassle free. At a later date I installed the EOTECH IFL integrated fore-arm light. It works great with no interference and grip feels more natural.
