Creek's Review of Swampfox Tomahawk 1-6x24mm Rifle Scope, 30mm Tube, Second Focal Plane (SFP)

I am feeling good with my decision to buy the Swampfox Tomahawk in 1-6. One of the main reasons is the reticle. I picked the cross over the BDC. I have built an AR platform focused more of long(er) distance precision shooting, rather than CQB quick "Mr Blasty" work. With this in mind, my build has an 18" barrel and the cross just works better for me. I don't care for BDC reticles for many reasons, but that's a different discussion. The main competitor was from Primary Arms, but there's something about that ACSS reticle - to wit: it's too small for me. The hashmarks are so close together as to be practically useless for the reason they're there to begin with. Not so with the Swampfox. The hashmarks are nicely - but not overly - spaced, not big but not tiny. Three bears perfect! Glass is clear and the knobs are crisp and not sloppy. Not hard to turn but not easy either (did I mention those 3 bears?) There is no wiggle on any of the knobs. You have to physically turn the knobs to "bump" them out of place. But even if you did, thanks to the zero reset, you just move the knob back to 0. The red illumination is good and has performed brilliantly on both cloudy and sunny days. One thing I like about these knobs is that there is a slight flare at the top that makes it easy to grip and the texture is aggressive. Adjustments with gloves on is easy as pie. Accuracy is awesome and was easy to sight in. I believe that the stock is only going to rise with this company and that the Tomahawk is seriously UNDERpriced for its quality. I own or have owned, Vortex, Steiner, Burris, Sig and the aforementioned Primary Arms and I can truthfully say that this baby is comfortably in the top 1/3 of the pack. I will probably buy the 1-4 version to put on the old AK.
Pros:
  • Everything
Cons:
  • I can't think of one. Not one.
Best Used for:
  • CQB, Target, Intermediate range hunting
