Most Helpful Positive Review Solid Optic for a great price.....
For a YouTube look at is see this- https://youtu.be/3NRlI4IRhps The scope to me seems like a solid built product, the turrets track and are very precise for the price you pay. The reticle is nice and sharp and not too large or thick for better precision shots. The finish is flawless and the l...

Great budget friendly LPVO option

by BigDGA, Verified Owner from GA, United States Written on January 14, 2024
I have never used an LPVO opting to instead use a read dot with QD base and then changing that out for a MPVO with a QD base for longer range shooting. After doing a lot of research I decided to give an LPVO a try and then based on other reviews I chose to get this Swampfox. 1-6x is a great magnification range for me. I've found the 1 power to be excellent to use for close range engagement (much like a red dot) while still having the option to crank it up to 6x and shoot 100/200 yards at the range. I can't compare this Tomahawk to other options in this price range but the glass is very clear, the illumination is truly daylight bright on the highest setting and it tracks accurately. I opted for the gorilla dot reticle because I plan to use it on 1x most often and I the only negative I have is the eye box could be a little more forgiving. Eye relief is probably 3.5 inches but I as I just mentioned the eye box (on 6x) will require you to position your head the same every time. At 1x the eye box is better but still not as good as just using a read dot. This LPVO is a SFP scope so the reticle stays the same size so the MOA marks are only correct at 6x but for my purposes that is not an issue.
Pros:
  • clear glass
  • Quality construction
  • magnification range
Cons:
  • eye box
Best Used for:
  • hunting
  • defense
  • Target shooting

2nd follow-up

by Slonjo, Verified Owner from WI, United States Written on June 7, 2023
I have two previous reviews. The first is just glowing and the second not so much. I ended up getting a string of optics with misaligned reticles. Well, I'm back again to report that they must've found the issue or as I stated previously, I was just unfortunate enough to keep getting ones from a bad run. I like these so much I had to try again and... good news! Everything looks great. I really don't think you can beat these for the price. I've put these up against the Truglo Omnia series and these have better, clearer and brighter glass. Putting together a gun for a friend of mine and didn't hesitate to recommend this product.

who's to blame?

by Jimmy Desperado, Verified Owner from MI, United States Written on January 12, 2023
$400 invested in a scope....cantilever mount and magnifier. Expecting a good quality LPVO from Swampfox....and getting just that. What I wasn't planning on was an open box item with missing parts....namely a throw lever...which may not seem like much to some...but to me the throw lever advertised with this 1-6 power scope....is a rarity among other brands same power competing scopes. I waited 2 weeks for the scope to be delivered....and now I'm being told theres no guarantee Ill be able to get a single throw lever made available to me. I have to believe Optics Planet is at fault on this. Perhaps a return from a customer needing a throw lever worse than me....coupled with company personnel so eager not to eat a return....they neglected to check the contents before re-selling. To Swampfox....this is a very nice scope. Too bad you have to shoulder a sub 5 star rating on behalf of Optics Planet. Not happy.

Misaligned Cross Reticle (follow-up review)

by Slonjo, Verified Owner from WI, United States Written on July 24, 2022
This is a follow-up to my previous review. I originally got one of each of the reticle types. I ended up liking the Gorilla Cross reticle better but it was out of alignment. The windage stadia were off-center. So, I returned the BDC for a Gorilla Cross version did a warranty exchange on the bad one. On both of the new Gorilla Cross reticle optics I received, the reticle was still off. The illuminated portion was several MOA off from the regular etched portion... on BOTH scopes. So... I tried one more time, exchanged one for credit (losing faith) and another for a new one and the 4th one I received still had the same issues. The windage stadia of the reticle were not aligned with the elevation. On the left, the windage stadia were inside the illuminated circle and on the right they were outside of it. It was that far off. I don't know if I just got a bad batch from a Monday production run, but it was unacceptable. I ended up returning them both.

I'm not sure many people would even notice the discrepancy, if you just used the center crosshair, you'd probably be fine, but I planned on using these at my 600+ yard range and I would have been off trying to use the windage stadia.

I sooooo much wanted to love these. You can tell from my previous review. it goes on-and-on with all the great features and quality these optics have and for the most part that all still holds true. If only I could've gotten one with a uniform and aligned reticle.

I still recommend these. Perhaps you mi...

Clear glass, near true 1x, great illuminated reticle(s), zero-able and tactile turrets

by Slonjo, Verified Owner from WI, United States Written on May 20, 2022
I got the BDC reticle, but I am so happy with this purchase I'm probably also going to get one of the others. The glass is edge-to-edge clear with very near true 1x, especially in this price range. Unlike some other sub-$300 scopes the 11 illumination adjustments are actually bright enough to be useful. Eye-relief is better than most in this price range. Comes with caps and a magnification throw lever which is always nice. Sturdy build. Nice finish. Zero-able turrets that have a nicely defined and tactile feedback.

The only 'con' I found is that the magnification adjustment is a bit stiff. I know this can vary from unit-to-unit as I've seen with other optics. I'm hoping this eases up with some use. I'm not a 3-gun-runner at this point anyway so it really doesn't matter to me but for some it might, hence the mention.

If you're new to LPVO's or putting together your first AR and are looking at those sub-$200 optics I would spend the extra $100 and move up to this. I have some of those cheaper optics but I had to go through tons to find anything that resembled quality. Takes a lot of time and although some do serve their purpose well enough (e.g. Firefield Rapidstrike), few have this glass, turret or illumination quality. Buy once, Cry once. You won't regret it. I've been really happy with Swampfox. It seems they are just trying harder than some of the other more 'popular' brands.
Pros:
  • Price
  • great reticle
  • accessories included
  • Bright illumination
  • Edge to edge clarity
  • Tactile Turrets
Cons:
  • Magnification adjustment is a bit stiff
Best Used for:
  • 3 gun competion
  • AR-15 builds
  • CQC
  • Short to Medium Range
  • Target and tactical use

Tomahawk better than ACSS?

by Creek, Verified Owner from OK, United States Written on January 20, 2022
I am feeling good with my decision to buy the Swampfox Tomahawk in 1-6. One of the main reasons is the reticle. I picked the cross over the BDC. I have built an AR platform focused more of long(er) distance precision shooting, rather than CQB quick "Mr Blasty" work. With this in mind, my build has an 18" barrel and the cross just works better for me. I don't care for BDC reticles for many reasons, but that's a different discussion. The main competitor was from Primary Arms, but there's something about that ACSS reticle - to wit: it's too small for me. The hashmarks are so close together as to be practically useless for the reason they're there to begin with. Not so with the Swampfox. The hashmarks are nicely - but not overly - spaced, not big but not tiny. Three bears perfect! Glass is clear and the knobs are crisp and not sloppy. Not hard to turn but not easy either (did I mention those 3 bears?) There is no wiggle on any of the knobs. You have to physically turn the knobs to "bump" them out of place. But even if you did, thanks to the zero reset, you just move the knob back to 0. The red illumination is good and has performed brilliantly on both cloudy and sunny days. One thing I like about these knobs is that there is a slight flare at the top that makes it easy to grip and the texture is aggressive. Adjustments with gloves on is easy as pie. Accuracy is awesome and was easy to sight in. I believe that the stock is only going to rise with this company and that the Tomahawk...
