Most Helpful Negative Review Not Worth It, Even on Sale
Ordered this for $18 on sale, not the listed $25, along with some other stuff and attempted to install it the same day as arrival. It looks like the design its self isn't bad, however, when you use the wrong/inadequate materiels then no matter how well something is designed it won't perform well. That's what Tacfire has done here. They used very soft aluminum for the whole part but then used steel screws to put it together. Soft aluminum and hard steel don't go together, particularly when they are using friction on each other. Were it made of harder aluminum or even steel, I could foresee it b...

Tacfire Bolt Catch Release Lever

by Jeffrey Weaver, Verified Owner from UT, United States Written on March 31, 2020
The Tacfire Bolt Catch Release Lever seems to be great quality for a reasonable price. It secures tight and doesn't wobble anymore than similar models. You either love or hate the aggressive texture. I wished the finger placement areas were slightly concaved for better ergonomics, whereas this model is straight in that area. If you like different models of ambi bolt releases on each of your AR15 style rifles or pistols, this is a pretty good option.
Pros:
  • Cost and quality
Cons:
  • finger areas could be concaved
Best Used for:
  • every day shooter
Would recommend: Yes

Great quality at a great price.

by Jeffrey Weaver, Verified Owner from UT, United States Written on July 29, 2019
Great quality at a great price.

The Tacfire Bolt Catch Release Lever in my opinion is as good as more expensive ambidextrous bolt release levers. Its design is strong, installs tight, and doesn't wobble. The coating is hard but a little shiny, which would be my only complaint, unless that is what you desire. I highly recommend this product.
Pros:
  • Price Construction
Cons:
  • coating is shiny
Best Used for:
  • dailiy use
Would recommend: Yes

Save your money

by DOA, from FL, United States Written on January 29, 2018
Went through 2 of these since they both broke on installation. The material is very soft so when you tighten the larger screw they break with very little torque. There are better options out there. Troy makes a much better bolt release.

No problems with TacFire lever

by Rumble, from FL, United States Written on January 26, 2018
I got this piece to try it out due to the low price, and was rather surprised at the quality feel of it. I was thinking I was gonna be sending it back and maybe getting the Troy piece, but that's not gonna happen. It mounted easily and securely with very little free play. I'm happy with it so far, and being that I'm not a LEO or comp shooter, I think it's more than acceptable for my home defense/recreational AR.
Pros:
  • great value and quality in a very reasonably priced piece of gear
Cons:
  • None so far, time will tell
Best Used for:
  • Personal and Home Defense
Would recommend: Yes

Don’t cheap out!

by Jose Rios, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on November 11, 2017
Broke while installing it. Worst mounting setup ever. 10/10 would not recommend. Go buy a Magpul one instead. I should have. I coat guns for a living and not new to gun parts. Bought it for a M&P15-22, so didn’t see a need for a more expensive part.
Pros:
  • Cheap.
Cons:
  • Too cheap
Best Used for:
  • scrap metal

Good alternative to the B.A.D. lever

by Edward, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on February 12, 2017
This bolt catch release lever is very well constructed and is not bulky. The installation is easy. This mag catch lever uses two bolts that hold the standard bolt release in place, and has a set screw that tightens everything together. Use blue locktite.
Pros:
  • Price
  • Design
  • Construction
Cons:
  • None

Not a good fit

by Shayne, Verified Owner from NM, United States Written on February 8, 2017
Long story short. This isn't as good as the Cobratac or the Magpul BCRL. It sits to far forward for me and since my fingers are short its hard to reach. Also the install mechanism is a bit odd with 2 different size allens.
Pros:
  • Cheep
Cons:
  • Fit
Best Used for:
  • Cheep AR build
