If you have a gas block front sight on your AK variant, this can be a good way to restore some of your sight radius, if paired with matching rear sight from Texas Weapon Systems. Otherwise, if you’re mounting any type of optic, this railed dust cover might be an advantage over an optics side mount if you have a folding stock. While I don’t have a side mount to weigh, I suspect this railed dust cover comes out lighter than the total weight of using many combinations of standard dust covers and side mounts for optics. Installation of the railed dust cover does take a minute, especially if you haven’t knocked an AK rear sight loose before, but don’t let that scare you off from this excellent mounting solution.
