Aegis's Review of Torrey Pines Logic T20 3-5.5x Optical Zoom Thermal Imager

I purchased this unit mostly to supplement a ranch defense plan. I mounted it in a side by side configuration with my red dot on my AR15, using a 45 degree offset rail and a high profile scope ring mount. This thing works amazing. The rating says its detection range is up to 150 meters. I’ve actually tested the unit to 300 meters and can verify it detects that far. I’ve tested it against hidden people, against camouflage, in dark tree lines at 120 meters out, and Ive tested it against ghillie suits with multiple different thermal absorption materials to aid masking heat signatures. This thing detects them all, when the naked eye (during the day) or night vision (at night) can’t see them at all. This is a great unit that really shines as a side by side optic on a rifle, principally for engagement at 75 yards and closer (but 125 yards is absolutely doable!). My set up uses this on a quick detach so I can scan using it like a monocular and if I spot something of interest, snap it on the AR rail to engage with. Or if I’m running my scoped 308 DMR, snap it on that rail, put the heat signature in the reticle on the T20 then look through my high powered scope (because it will automatically have the crosshairs on the item of interest in this configuration) for a better look at what its picking up. The T20 often picks up things I could not see with the naked eye, even using a scope to augment my sight. Anyway, I’ve done a ton of videos on this unit and uploaded them to a common video sharing platform. I’m not saying names in case it violates a rule here. I’ve put up about 20 videos of this thing in use around the ranch. You’ll get a really good idea if this unit is right for you by just doing the search on the name and watching them. I don’t make any money off it. I only have 3 subscribers for crying out loud. I just put them up to help people decide to buy this or not. They are what I wish I had to look at before I bought it. Anyway, I love this thing.
Pros:
  • Great CQB and medium distance optic for cutting through trees, fog, rain, snow, camoflauge, pitch black, indoors, etc.
Cons:
  • Low resolution at distance, but its half to one tenth the price of other thermals
Best Used for:
  • Predator denial, perimeter security, CQB,
Would Recommend: Yes
