John Mazur's Review of Trijicon AccuPower 1-8x28 Rifle Scope MOA Segmented-Circle Crosshair w/ Red LED

I just received my scope this afternoon and rushed to mount and shoot this before daylight ended. First off this was a simple and easy installation, no surprises. The Zerostop turrets took me 30 seconds to figure out, and 20 rounds to obtain a perfect zero. The glass, as expected is very clear and can only be trumped by Swarovski, Zeiss, Leica and those other such top tier scope makes. While superior to or on par with Primary Arms Platinum, Vortex Razor, Sig, Nightforce and any other scope up to about 2k bucks.

The glass is really good, but it really shines (incoming pun) in the brightness category. I can only compare brightness to the top tier scopes as it flat out beat just anything else in its class by a large margin and easily beat out several top tier scope makers after the sun had set. Sunset was 8:24 p.m. and I alongside of 4 or 5 other hardcore shooters stayed and shot till we could not safely ID our targets. The light gathering gave me another 30 minutes of shooting light that I have never had from a LPVO until this optic. Several people on the range were beyond impressed and so was I.

The build quality and finish is excellent on the Accupower. The warranty in my inexperience (while not as good as Vortex or Sig that I do have experience with) is very good in writing. But to be honest, I have never had to use a warranty on Trijicon stuff,so having no experience with them I consider it a plus. There stuff just works, and works, and... Well you get the idea.

The reticle is very good and in the first focal plane, one of my must haves. On top of that it is a true one power. I liked the MOA setup on this reticle and it was quick and easy to shoot out to 400 with my moa dots already calculated. The 8x power shined out at distance both in IDENTIFYING targets and shooting them. A 1x6 is fine for shooting, but not fine for identifying. I do not like the BDC type reticules. I like shooting to many other gun calibers and varieties of ammunition to tie myself to a reticle. That said this reticle is daylight bright and very intuitive for me. Not as bright as I prefer, but daylight bright. I would really like a second focal plane red dot over lapping the first focal plane reticle like that on the Swarovski. On top of that I would prefer a finer crosshair as well (like the Swarovski...), just not the price tag. All in all a very serviceable reticle, not perfect but very good.

This scope is a heavy bugger. Definitely the only real negative of this beast. 2 pounds combined weight with scope and mount. For my money this thing is so absolutely perfect it makes me wonder why I missed this scope for so long? Simply the best 1x8 scope under 2k and I gave $1198 for this scope. There are better scopes, but not until you double what I paid.

I highly recommend this scope at this value point. Unless the reticle is not to your liking. Both Primary Arms Platinum and Nightforce NX8 have a wonderful BDC reticle and good glass. As well as the nightforce is several ounces lighter. But man'o'man this thing was clear and so much brighter then anything else out there!
